Wladimir Klitschko: David Haye Has No Legacy; Vitali Klitschko: Haye a "Clown"
In a video clip posted by BBC Sport, heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko of Ukraine says that WBA champion David Haye either takes his offer of a July 2 fight, "or he just leaves the whole thing there."
Klitschko, 34, says that after confirming the date of July 2, Haye replied, "I don't want you to fight before [that date]."
Wladimir added, "I won't listen to David Haye on what I have to do or not [do]."
Klitschko has said previously that due to Haye having already pulled out of a signed fight with him, along with the fact Haye also pulled out of negotiations that were at the contract-signing stage with his brother, WBC champ Vitali Klitschko, he feared that the Briton might again pull a vanishing act for the July date, leaving him idle for half of this year while still in his prime.
Wanting to avoid this, Klitschko has decided to honor a previous commitment to fight the UK's Dereck Chisora in April, and if all goes well, to fight top challenger Tomasz Adamek of Poland in the fall.
That leaves the July 2 date for a title unification dance with Haye, if he accepts.
"The date is confirmed, all he has to do is say 'yes,'" says Klitschko, who added that he would fight Haye in either Germany or the UK, "it doesn't matter."
"After talking so much nonsense, he has to get in the ring," the IBF, IBO and WBO champion said.
"He's talking about legacy? I don't see any legacy with David Haye, I'm sorry."
Vitali Klitschko, meanwhile, doesn't think Haye wants to fight former WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev, much less a Klitschko brother.
The WBC champ Vitali told the Daily Sport that with only a mere vaccination, "Wladimir then went into the ring" against "the same Chagaev who Haye doesn't want to fight right now and [Haye] continues to talk about his disease" (Chagaev carries the hepatitis B antigen in his bloodstream, but is not sick).
"Meanwhile, Wladimir fought with [Chagaev] without any problems," Vitali, 39, who faces off with his mandatory challenger Odlanier Solis on March 19, said.
"Haye had a fight with me, but at the last minute broke away and David signed a contract to fight with Nikolai Valuev," Klitschko continued.
"What can I say, he's a clown."
