Super Bowl 2011: 10 Players Who Earned Super Cash On Sunday
The Super Bowl is the grandest stage in all of sports, and it has the ability to make or break the career of a football player.
Doug Legursky took over the starting center position for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and given the demanding nature of the position and the magnitude of the game, he played incredibly.
Legursky may have earned himself a nice future paycheck with his great play in the Super Bowl.
Let's take a look at 10 players who may have earned some super cash on super Sunday.
10. James Jones
1 of 10
James Jones is hitting the market this off season, and if I were the Packers I would wrap him up.
Jones has been inconsistent at times, and he has had problems with dropping perfect balls for sure touchdowns.
If he can improve his concentration, though, he is such a mismatch against team’s third and fourth option coverage players, and the Packers would be wise to exploit his size and skills.
He dropped a big ball on Sunday, but he also came up with a huge drive extending first-down grab.
I’ll take the good with the bad, having Jones as my third receiver on the depth chart.
9. Mike Wallace
2 of 10
The Pittsburgh Steelers need to give Mike Wallace a raise.
He was the only threat that they had down field in the Super Bowl, and he’s going to have to be an integral part of their team moving forward if the Steelers want to get back to the big show.
Wallace made a stellar catch for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, and he would have had another one earlier in the game if Roethlisberger would have been accurate on a beautiful route.
Mike Wallace is good enough to be your number one receiver, and eventually he’s going to have to get paid like one.
8. Cullen Jenkins
3 of 10
On a defense that is packed (pun intended) with play-makers, it is sometimes easy to overlook the impact that Cullen Jenkins has on the game.
Jenkins is a big man, yet he is incredibly quick off the edge, and works perfectly in the Packers 3-4 scheme.
Get him paid, or some other team will make him rich.
7. Mason Crosby
4 of 10
In my opinion, Mason Crosby is one of the better kickers in this league, and the Packers are definitely going to want to pay this guy and get him signed to come back!
His field goal late in the fourth quarter started pounding the nail in the coffin, and he barely flinched in what was a very pressure filled situation.
Crosby has a cannon for a leg, and if he continues to work on his accuracy, he can be great for the Packers.
6. Donald Driver
5 of 10
Donald Driver is one of the best receivers in Green Bay history, and he is easily the most consistent.
Now that “Double D” has a ring though, he’s going to probably start considering whether or not it is time to retire.
Either way, if I was Green Bay, I’m going to make sure this guy gets paid. If he wants to come back for another year or two, do it!
Driver has been one of the most faithful players the franchise has seen, and it would be just to reward him for all the hard work.
If he wants to retire, just throw him a big retirement party and perhaps slip in an envelope with a little bit of cash in it.
His smile alone would be worth it.
5. Charles Woodson
6 of 10
Charles Woodson is in the same boat as Donald Driver, being the possibility that he retires this off-season.
He has been playing the game for a very long time at a very high level, and his broken collarbone in the Super Bowl could be the deciding factor along with the new ring he’s going to have on his finger.
If Woodson does decide to hang ‘em up, the Packers need to do everything in their power to make the man feel like a king for the rest of his life.
Buy him a house, cars, a boat! Heck, buy him a new collarbone.
Either way, Charles Woodson has been the heartbeat and leader of the Green Bay Packers, so they’ve got to take care of him.
4. Aaron Rodgers
7 of 10
Rodgers is not close to free agency, nor is he getting snubbed out of any money.
He just got a brand new car to drive around town for his MVP performance, and I’ve got a feeling that he might acquire a few more of those honors in his day.
But, if you’re the Packers, why not just make the lifetime commitment.
Sign Rodgers up for life, pay him all the money that he could ever want, and let’s retire him as a Packer through and through.
No need to go to the Jets and Vikings to mar his legacy as a Packer.
3. Mewelde Moore
8 of 10
Moore has really taken a backseat to Rashard Mendenhall, and it has been for good reason.
That being said, the Steelers have a good backup in Moore, and if I were them? I would try to keep him from going elsewhere in free agency.
Moore still has great speed and elusiveness, and he can be a valuable asset to the Steelers as a backup or if something happens to Mendenhall.
2. LeMarr Woodley
9 of 10
Getting Woodley to come back to Pittsburgh is going to have to be priority number one for the Steelers this off-season.
Woodley’s presence on defense is tremendous, and moving into the future, the Steelers are going to need to look to him to become a leader on the team.
If they can’t lock him up things could start going downhill for them, so it’s going to have to be a main priority to make sure that Woodley gets his, so the Steelers can get theirs.
1. Doug Legursky
10 of 10
Doug Legursky played the game of his life in the biggest game of his life, and the Steelers absolutely need to reward this man for his service.
To be a backup center thrust into a starting role in the Super Bowl is no easy task, especially when you have to go head to head with B.J. Raji.
Legursky practically neutralized Raji’s effectiveness in the game, and don’t forget all the calls and decisions that a center has to make during the course of a game.
Now, the Steelers aren’t going to forget about Maurkice Pouncey, and he will definitely be the starter for years to come at the center position.
But, Legursky showed that he can be a big time player, and I’m sure the Steelers can find some room in their wallets and on the offensive line for him.
