Super Bowl XLV: The Macho Rhino Selection for the Big Game

Macho RhinoFeb 6, 2011

It’s Super Bowl Sunday! The two weeks of waiting for this game are now dwindling down to hours from kickoff. I’ve gone back and forth on how this game will go. I think the two teams are very evenly matched. This one should be a great game that goes down to the wire.

Here’s how I see it.

I expect the Packers to come out firing early and think they’re best going with four and five receiver sets to spread out the Steelers’ defense. That can exploit the one area Green Bay has a clear advantage, their receivers against Pittsburgh's secondary. I think Aaron Rodgers leads them down to an early lead in this one.

When Pittsburgh gets the ball, I think they need to run counters early to slow the Packers down. GB has great speed on defense, and I’d try to catch them over-pursuing and hope Rashard Mendenhall can gash them for big gains on the ground.

As the game gets going, I think Green Bay will need to keep a fast pace and try to wear down the Pittsburgh defenders. Pittsburgh will be able to start to hit some plays in their passing game off of play-action and start to get the Pack off balance.

There will be a lot of drama in the fourth quarter and I think Green Bay hits a big pass play to get the winning margin, but Ben Roethlisberger leads a late TD drive and converts a two-point conversion to close the gap. The Steelers get the ball back but can’t convert in the final minute and Green Bay wins Super Bowl XLV, 21-18.

Don’t forget to vote in Babe Bowl 2011!
