Super Bowl XLV Green Bay Packers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers: 10 Game Predictions

Adam FromalJun 7, 2018

The biggest event in American sports is almost here. The Super Bowl is the pinnacle of the NFL season and this season, the Green Bay Packers will square off with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dallas for the right to be called champions.

By now you've probably read tons of predictions about the game. Many pundits have given their opinions about who will win, who the stars will be and more.

I'm not as interested in that anymore. Sure, it's still important, but that's not what this is about.

These productions are a little more off-the-wall. They're designed to make you think about the subplots of the game, to be bold and to make you laugh a little bit.

Enjoy reading through them.

10. At Least One Defensive Touchdown For Each Team

The Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers both have incredible turnover producing defenses.

Clay Matthews, Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams, James Harrison, Troy Polamalu and other great defensive players will all be taking the field.

Chances are there will be at least one defensive touchdown in this game. In fact, I think that each team will manage to put some points on the board without their offense.

Pittsburgh had four on the year and Green Bay had six. At the end of this game, there will be at least 12 combined scores on the season by the two defenses.

9. Ben Roethlisberger Will Be Viewed As a Good Person

The Onion recently produced a video titled "Ben Roethlisberger One Win Away From Being a Good Person."

While they're obviously making a joke, there is some truth in the satire. The Super Bowl would fully redeem Big Ben for his off-season actions in the eyes of many fans.

Is it fair? Not necessarily, but it is the reality.

With a good performance, Roethlisberger will put his past behind him.

8. Jerry Jones Will Be Shown 20 Times

With the Super Bowl being played in the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium, the proud owner will undoubtedly be shown at least 20 times.

It doesn't matter that his team wasn't even close to being involved in the big game. The stadium, not the Dallas Cowboys, is Jerry Jones' pride and joy right now.

When there's nothing else to talk about for a short period of time, the cameras are going to flash to a picture quite similar to the one on the left.

7. The Commercials Will Be Subpar

4 of 10

Maybe it's just me, but I haven't been too thrilled by the Super Bowl commercials in recent years.

The creators of the ads are just trying too hard.

There's too much appeal to sex now. What happened to commercials that are actually funny instead of making men look like pigs and hoping people laugh?

Maybe this year will be different, but I doubt it.

6. Brett Favre's Name Will Be Said 100 Times

You know this is going to happen.

5. The Black Eyed Peas Make Peoples' Ears Bleed

6 of 10

The Black Eyed Peas might produce good studio music, but notice the emphasis on the word "studio."

When they're forced to sing live, they just aren't very good. You can't watch the embedded video and think that they're particularly pleasant to the ears.

I mean, look at the crowd. With the exception of the planned routine by a part of the crowd, no one there is into the music at all.

Great choice for the halftime show by the NFL.

Your sarcasm detector should be off the charts right now.

4. James Starks Will Become a Household Name

I bet I tricked a lot of you here.

I'm not saying that James Starks will become a household name because he'll have a good game. In fact, I expect for him to be shut down early and often by the tough Steelers defense.

But he is starting at running back for the Green Bay Packers on the biggest sports stage in the world. Therefore, people are going to know his name by the end.

Whether it's an announcer saying, "And there's James Starks losing three yards on the play!" or "And there's James Starks AND HE'S LOST THE BALL!!! JAMES HARRISON PICKS IT UP FOR A TOUCHDOWN!!" people are going to hear the name a lot.

3. Troy Polamalu Will Be Tackled By His Hair

8 of 10

See, two predictions are contained in this one.

The first is that Troy Polamalu will manage to get his hands on the ball. It could be after recovering a fumble or after intercepting an Aaron Rodgers pass, but the defensive player of the year will do so.

Then, the Packers are going to have to bring him down. There's no fancier way to do that than by pulling on his hair.

After the hair war that's been going on all week, Green Bay may be more inclined than it normally would to yank on Polamalu's million dollar locks.

2. James Harrison Will Be Fined

James Harrison likes making big hits.

If he doesn't play intelligently, Harrison could easily lose focus for a second and level a Green Bay Packer with a head-to-head hit.

As big a game as the Super Bowl is, Roger Goodell would have no choice but to fine Harrison if he does anything wrong.

1. Aaron Rodgers Throws a Last Minute Touchdown Pass

This game is going to be close throughout, but the Pittsburgh Steelers will have a seven-point advantage when Green Bay gets the ball with less than two minutes left in the final quarter.

Aaron Rodgers is going to lead a dramatic drive that ends in a touchdown pass to Greg Jennings with less than a minute left to tie up the game.

It won't matter because the Steelers will prevail in overtime, but he'll provide a lot of drama and make the game quite enjoyable.
