Tennis: Quarterfinals Take Place in Johannesburg and Zagreb
The "natives" made it into their respective countries' tournament quarterfinals in Croatia and South Africa.
Fourth seed Kevin Anderson defeated Dudi Sela to make it to the QFs in the SA Tennis Open as the only South African in the draw after countryman Fritz Wolmarans fell to Canadian Frank Dancevic.
Croatian players Marin Cilic, Ivan Ljubicic and Ivan Dodig finished their matches with same results—in more ways than one. Specifically, Sony Ericsson Open champion and second seed Ljubicic took out Germany's Daniels Brands 6-2, 6-3, while Dodig followed suit, beating Ukrainian Illya Marchenko 6-2, 6-3, as well.
Now, the two Croatians will face-off.
As for the rest of the quarterfinalists in SA, Slovakian Karol Beck defeated Go Soeda 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 to meet with Anderson.
Sixth seed Adrian Mannarino routed Denis Gremelmayr 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4 to play against Dancevic.
Indian Somdev Devvarman ousted Jesse Huta Jalung 6-3, 6-4 to meet Rik De Voest, who upset eighth seed Michal Przysiezny.
Canadian qualifier Milos Roanic fell to German Simon Greul 7-6 (5), 6-4, who will take on wildcard Izak Van Der Merwe after he defeated Dustin Brown in three sets.
With the majority of the seeds intact in Zagred, two-time title holder and first seed Cilic meets with fifth seed Florian Mayer, who took out Radek Stepanek 7-6 (3), 6-3.
Fourth seed Richard Gasquet is in the QFs after Arnaud Clement gave him a walk over and he will meet with eighth seed Michael Berrer, who beat Blaz Kavcic 6-4, 6-1.
After taking out seventh seed Philipp Petzschner 6-1, 6-2, qualfier Alex Bogomolov Jr., AKA Bogie, challenges third seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who defeated Lukas Lacko 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.
