Walker-Sports College Football Pick'em Week 4

Dumont WalkerSep 18, 2008

The week four of the college football season has already kicked off with a game on Wednesday night, and to all of those who truly cared about the Kansas State vs. Louisville game, sorry it wasn’t going to make our preview anyways. However, tonight, the real weekend kicks off with WVU traveling to Colorado, and on Saturday the SEC season kicks off with Tennessee and Florida going at it. Now, let’s see if Walker-Sports can rekindle some of that week 2 winning magic. That’s right it’s Walker-Sports College Football Pick’em week 4 editions.

Florida Gators vs. Tennessee Vol's

The Florida Gators are Tim Tebow’s team and whatever he brings to the table (which is a lot) will determine how the Gators will fair in every game thy play this season. The Gators offense has struggled at times in their first two games of the season. The one common thread has been Tebow being able to spark the team and eventually lead them to the win. Playing on the road at the loud Neyland Stadium in Tennessee Tebow will need to get his team out to a fast start to quiet what will be a rowdy crowd.

The Tennessee Vol’s once again seem to be flaying around and trying to find an identity. The Vol’s appeared to be completely lost on offense in their season opener at UCLA, which explains why they were unable to capitalize on four Bruin turnovers in the first half. Young QB Jonathan Crompton will need to rely on his teammates, especially his tough rushing attack, to get the Tennessee offense into some sort of a rhythm. The Vol’s cannot allow the Tebow and the Gators to stay on the field long; if they do then we will see a repeat of last year’s 59-20 blowout in the Swamp.

Florida is a 7.5 point favorite against the Gators. I like those odds take the Gators, they have what it takes to put points up on the Vol’s and more importantly the Vol’s offense just can’t keep pace.

Other games of interest on the upcoming weekend:

WVU vs. Colorado: WVU has a chance to begin down the trail of redemption on Thursday night. This time they will be in the altitude of Colorado. Pat White will be the key to this game. Don’t be surprised if WVU reverts to some of their old tactics and rely on the option more than just their passing attack. Colorado is still waiting for their young pups to develop, and a game against a hungry WVU team with a defense that is eager to prove itself may not be the best place to grow. WVU covers the -3 and wins the game.

Wake Forest vs. Florida State: “Well I am sure we are qualified to make the Div 1AA playoffs” That was Bobby Bowden’s quote after his Noles finished destroying two Div 1AA teams by the combined score of 115-7. However, on Saturday FSU will face a slightly tougher opponent in Wake Forest. Wake Forest is eyeing an ACC title this season (that still sounds strange) and FSU is desperate to save face and climb back to the top of the ACC. Every journey begins with just one step and FSU will take that step Saturday cover, the 3 point spread and beating Wake Forest.

Georgia vs. Arizona State: This was one of the big games of the season that was until last week when the Sun Devils blew a game to UNLV. Nonetheless, this is still a game that makes the Walker-Sports radar. ASU is a good team, and they will be at home in the desert on Saturday night. The key to this game will be how the Sun Devils defense can hold up. Last week they gave up 103 yards on the ground to UNLV. This week they have Moreno coming to town and to this point of the season he has put an absolute clinic on defenses. This is also Georgia’s first chance to show the nation just how talented they are and prove they deserve their number one spot back. Georgia will win the game but, ASU will be able to cover the +7.

LSU vs. Auburn: When it comes to the SEC there are no cupcake games, and this one is proof of that. Tiger on Tiger violence has to be a good thing right? Well the key to this game will be offense. LSU has rolled their two opening opponents and appears to be finding their stride. Auburn on the other hand can’t seem to get out the blocks that were shown in their 3-2 thriller against Miss St. However, that could be okay for Auburn; the last two times they played LSU in Auburn they won both games 10-9 and 7-3 respectively. When these teams get together you can expect a close affair. I like Auburn to keep this one tight and ugly and make up the +3 spread and win out right.
