WWE's Michael Cole: One of the Best To Ever Wear a Headset?

Michael Cole is hated by everyone. The kids, the women and even most of the Internet Wrestling Community. No, this isn't the face Michael Cole that calls matches right down the middle, like the guy who sat next to Taz and JBL on Smackdown for years. Although he was hated then too, the WWE made one of the best moves it could possibly make: turn Cole heel.

It all started on NXT Season 1, when he criticized (and eventually feuded with) Daniel Bryan. It just so happens that The Miz was Bryan's NXT Pro, and as a result, has become Michael Cole's favorite wrestlers...I mean Superstar. Recently, Cole has even turned on John "Super" Cena.

When you look at the WWE's announcers, most are dull faces. Jerry "The King" Lawler has become very dull since turning face and has been in the ring more than the announce desk lately. Josh Mathews is only good when he's with Michael Cole, but without him he's not nearly as good. Todd Grisham is the definition of boring. Since turning heel, Cole has been gold. He is the man that keeps you from falling asleep during boring time filler Raw matches. You know it's true. 

He makes face commentators like Jerry Lawler and Josh Mathews fairly entertaining. He plays a unique heel play-by-play commentator. 

He makes the average fan dislike guys like The Miz and Dolph Ziggler even more. He gets them extra heat.

Cole likes some faces and some heels. Some find this odd, but it makes his gimmick more believable. Most like some good guys and some bad guys. Not just one side or the other.

Do you want to throw objects at the television when you listen to Michael Cole? Do you just want to reach through the TV and knock him out? Good, that's what they want you to do. He is playing his role successfully.

The point is, Michael Cole gets the reaction that the WWE is craving from you, much like Vickie Guerrero. Not many play-by-play commentators could pull this off, but Michael Cole can. When he retires, you'll realize that he's one of the best to ever put on the headset.
