Tennessee Titans: Mike Mularkey Would Be Good Fit As Next Head Coach

Chad MintonFeb 2, 2011

There's almost too many names to keep up with in the sweepstakes to become the next head coach of the Tennessee Titans, and Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularky has become a possible candidate.

Mularkey has helped make the Falcons one of the better offensive teams in the NFL since he joined the team in 2008.

This would be a good direction for the Titans to go in, because finally the team has the offensive tools to become one of the more dangerous teams in the NFL on offense.

The Titans also have some promising tight ends like Jared Cook and Craig Stevens who could benefit from Mularkey's experience as a tight ends coach.

If the Titans are ready to start fresh, and move away from the conservative system that Jeff Fisher created, then Mularkey is a guy who could help do that. He's known for having a great knack for developing unique offensive package, which gives opposing defensive coordinators fits.

The Titans already have one of the best athletes in the game in Chris Johnson, and Mularkey's offensive knowledge would be great for Johnson's game.

People opposed to hiring Mularkey will draw attention to his short track record as a head coach, where he went 14-18 as head coach of the Bills.

That was a rough situation when he coached in Buffalo, having to deal with multiple personnel problems in a bad organization.

A guy that has as much knowledge on the offensive side of the ball deserves a second chance at a head coaching job.

There's many teams who will have interest in a guy like Mularkey, so the Titans have to be swift at going after him if that's their guy.

A specific time for an interview with Mularkey has not yet been scheduled.

Other possible replacements of Fisher include offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, offensive line coach Mike Munchak, and Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell.
