Jay Frye Signs Multi-Year Deal to Remain with Team Red Bull

Horn FanSep 19, 2008

Red Bull Racing has officially announced that Vice President and General Manager Jay Frye has signed a multi-year contract extension and will continue to manage its NASCAR Sprint Cup team.

It's a very important signing, and he is a key member of the team that they couldn't afford to lose.

When you look at all the Sprint Cup teams, Team Red Bull is one of the most improved. Driver Brian Vickers is NASCAR's most improved driver.

Since signing Frye in January 2008, the team has done a 360-degree turn around from how the team ran in 2007. Partly to blame for the team's struggles was trying to run in NASCAR with a Formula One mentality.

Frye is a NASCAR veteran, having spent 12 years running MB2 then Ginn Motorsports, which merged with Dale Earnhardt, Inc. last year.

He's got Team Red Bull headed in the right direction in their second season with Brian Vickers in 15th place in the standings. AJ Allmendinger also has been running well and qualifying. Former F1 driver Scott Speed has quickly adjusted to stock cars under Frye's developmental plan.

With what TRB has done this year, expect even bigger goals for the team in 2009 and with Scott Speed progressing so nicely. With Frye staying on board, they're about to reap the rewards for all the hard work they have done. That makes it extra special having Frye there to enjoy it.

Frye was extremely pleased and quite excited to continue the relationship in his comments on redbullracing.com.

"It's truly is amazing to see the levels of potential, desire and dedication this organization has for wanting to succeed and be a leading force each and every weekend we compete on the track. To be able to continue to see this team achieve it's long-term goals is something I'm very committed to.

Next up to re-sign will be AJ Allmendinger. But that signing hinges on how well Scott Speed does in his cup debut in October at Lowe's Motor Speedway and the fact Dietrich Mateschitz wants him in Cup in 2009.

Check back; I do write updates on Scott Speed here on B/R and will keep you posted on the Allmendinger signing.
