The South Carolina Gamecocks have been holding their own since Steve Spurrier became their head football coach in 2005. Although this is a big step for the Gamecocks, the next step is to become one of the best teams in the nation.

With the addition of DE Jadeveon Clowney, the Gamecocks would come closer to reaching this next step. With this said, Clowney means a lot to South Carolina.

Clowney Is The No. 1 Recruit In The Nation

Clowney is the unanimous number one player in the nation according to ESPN and CBS. The Gamecocks can expect big things from Clowney. He is already going to be on the cover of ESPN the magazine in February.

A star at defense is just what the Gamecocks need.

His Size

Scouts consider Clowney built like a power forward in basketball. He is very lengthy and even more muscular. They are loving Jadeveon's 245 pound frame. Scouts think Clowney can bulk up a bit and this will only benefit him and make him a better football player.

Clowney's Athleticism

Jadeveon Clowney has great athleticism that allows him to make plays all over the field. He is fast like a corner back, but strong like a linebacker. He has great footwork and is a true athlete in every aspect of the game of football.

Put him at any position and he would be a star.

Jadeveon Is Very Versatile

Jadeveon is very versatile and can make plays on defense, offense and special teams. Clowney can do everything, heck if you put him in at quarterback he would most likely succeed.

His versatility will fit in nicely with other players on the team, like DE Byron McKnight, DE Devin Taylor, and DE Corey Simmons. Clowney would be the perfect replacement for DE Cliff Mathews.

Jadeveon Clowney stands at 6-foot-6 and people can bet that his wingspan is just as big. This feature is really what have the scouts going and it helps Clowney get to players and make tackles.

With his long arms and tallness, he will be a quarterback nightmare.

His Explosiveness

6 of 9

Clowney's explosiveness allows him to get to the quarterback before offensive lineman can even get out of their stance. With this explosiveness, Clowney will rack up the sacs on any team that he goes up against.

It will also allow him to make plays off of the ball and get to opposing players if other defensive players need help.

Speed Demon

Jadeveon is fast enough to catch plays from behind and with his lateral speed, he can go from sideline to sideline.

Jadeveon can literally make any play on the field. He can act as a corner back in coverage, or he can do what he is supposed to and get to the quarterback before anyone else does. Clowney's speed is going to do wonders for the South Carolina defense.

If The Gamecocks Don't Get Clowney They Will Likely Be Playing Him

The most important issue about the South Carolina Gamecocks picking up Jadeveon Clowney are if they do not pick him up, then most likely they will be playing him. Not to mention, Alabama will likely get him.

South Carolina was 43rd in the nation last season at points allowed. They allowed 23.1 points per game. With the addition of Clowney, most of these points will be shaved off.

Clowney is already a star, he has great size from his height all the way down to his wingspan, he has amazing athleticism, he's very versatile and his explosiveness and speed makeup a quarterbacks nightmare. Jadeveon Clowney is an amazing football player and the Gamecocks need him.
