Jadeveon Clowney: Can He Still Be Stolen From Alabama and South Carolina?

Bleacher ReportCorrespondent IFebruary 2, 2011

Jadeveon Clowney is reportedly not going to make his college announcement until Feb. 14.

That leaves National Signing Day for other highly-touted recruits to share the spotlight, or for us to wonder even more where the nation's top recruit and one of the most talented high school players ever will ultimately end up.

As National Signing Day officially arrives, the college football world wonders where Clowney will land. He has long maintained that it is between Alabama and South Carolina.

We should wonder, however, if any of his other finalists have what it takes to steal the defensive end away from the Crimson Tide or Gamecocks.

All told, Clowney's finalists—in addition to South Carolina and Alabama—include: North Carolina and Clemson

Clemson has remained in the hunt for Clowney, who took his official visit there this past weekend. It remains to be seen if the visit was just a formality or if he'll truly consider the Tigers. With as strong a recruiting class as Dabo Swinney has put together, Clowney could certainly succeed well at Clemson.

North Carolina remains the other potential program that could steal Clowney away from South Carolina and Alabama. Clowney will actually take his official visit to Chapel Hill this weekend.

The fact that Clowney actually made his visit to Clemson and is still planning his post-National Signing Day jaunt to North Carolina should say something. He cancelled an official visit to Florida State last weekend before making another unofficial visit to South Carolina and that was very telling. The Seminoles are no longer considered finalists for Clowney.

So can Clowney indeed be stolen from Alabama and South Carolina?

While he does have interest in Clemson and North Carolina, the answer remains no.

The interest, appeal and potential pro-Clowney situations at both South Carolina and Alabama are just too strong for the Tigers and Tarheels to step in at this point.
