Three Huskers news bullets for your Thursday afternoon:
THE BIG XII CONFERENCE KICKS ASS:
"The Big 12 currently has five teams ranked in the AP Top 25. If Colorado beats #21 West Virginia in tonight’s nationally televised game on ESPN, the Buffaloes will certainly vault into the Top 25.
Many pundits feel that a Nebraska victory next Saturday night over Virginia Tech would do the same for the Huskers. If so, the Big XII could potentially have SEVEN teams ranked in the Top 25 heading into October.
"
BO PELINI ON 2007 LSU vs VIRGINA TECH GAME:
"The Grand Island Independent notes that Pelini was defensive coordinator at LSU during a 48-7 thumping of Virginia Tech last September. The Tigers rolled to a 27-0 lead and held a 598-149 edge in total offense.
“We kind of had some good things happen for us early in the game and it kind of snowballed on them,” Pelini said. “I said after the game, ’We can play them 10 more times and it probably would have been a lot different 10 times.’ We all know how good of a football team they have.“
"
DAUNTING SCHEDULE WILL CHALLENGE HUSKERS OVER NEXT FEW WEEKS:
"Johnny Perez of the Daily Nebraskan perfectly frames the challenges the Huskers will face over the next few weeks with their brutal schedule.
“The Cornhuskers have entered their earliest bye week since 2004 on a surge of momentum gained from the three wins that opened the season. However, the most difficult portion of the Husker’s 2008 season lies directly ahead.”
“After Nebraska hosts Virginia Tech in a nationally televised contest next week, the team will welcome a powerful Missouri team that’s ranked fifth in the polls and stands a legitimate chance at a BCS bowl berth. Nebraska will then travel south to meet 11th ranked Texas Tech and later to Norman for the big one: No. 2 Oklahoma.“
