Guinness Premiership predictions: Round 3
The Guinness Premiership fixtures are coming thick and fast over the first few weeks of the season, and there are some good-looking fixtures coming up this weekend.
The action gets underway on Friday night as Bristol host Sale in a bottom versus (almost) top affair. The Home side welcome back Dan Ward-Smith in one of five changes from the team that lost to Harelquins last week, but the Sharks look stronger to me and I’ve picked them to continue their unbeaten start to the season.
After Gloucester’s first victory at The Rec last week, morale will be back on track and I expect them to inflict a first defeat for Quins who are still without Nick Evans.
London Irish v Bath is a difficult fixture to predict. The Exiles have performed well despite a very difficult start to the season, whilst Bath will be determined to respond after defeat last week. I’ve picked the Home side to win, but not by much.
Can defending Champions Wasps lose three in a row? They travel to Franklins Gardens on Saturday with a cloud hanging over them after James Haskell and Richard Birkett were cited this week. I’ve gone for a Northampton victory to continue Wasps’ misery.
Worcester host Leicester at Sixways and despite their giant-killing feats last week, I’ve predicted another win for the Tigers. Heyneke Meyer’s side have started the season in fine form, and should overcome the Warriors.
Finally, Saracens have had two narrow defeats so far and will be desperate to put things right against Newcastle at Vicarage Road. Jonny Wilkinson was the hero last week for the Falcons, but I’ve picked the Home side to take the spoils.
Here are my SuperBru picks for Round 2:
Game 13: Bristol Rugby v Sale Sharks: Sale Sharks by 15
Game 14: Gloucester Rugby v Harlequins: Gloucester Rugby by 16
Game 15: London Irish v Bath Rugby: London Irish by 2
Game 16: Northampton Saints v London Wasps: Northampton Saints by 7
Game 17: Worcester Warriors v Leicester Tigers: Leicester Tigers by 16
Game 18: Saracens v Newcastle Falcons: Saracens by 8
