WWE Royal Rumble 2011: Nash, Triple H Return? Edge and Miz Retain?

It's three hours until the Royal rumble, and I’ve just spent an hour fighting with my Sky+ Box so that I can actually order the dammed thing.

Normally I stay away from spoilers for PPVs, but this is the Royal Rumble, and as such I’m reading all the updates I can. This is because it’s not what WWE have told us that excites me; it’s what they haven’t.

I’m not interested in the WWE title match and while I like LayCool, I’m not interested in seeing them in another Divas title match. On the other hand I am excited to see some of the names rumoured to be appearing, so while I wait I’m going to use my excitement to fuel this Royal Rumble preview.

WWE Divas Title Match: Michelle McCool & Layla Vs. Natalya(c)

Yay, LayCool… again. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only member of the IWC who is a fan of LayCool but even I’m getting bored of them now. They’ve been dominating the Women’s division for over a year now and personally I believe it’s time for a Layla face turn. Look for Natalya to retain and Michelle to blame Layla and then turn on her. If Michelle doesn't turn on Layla tonight then it will happen very soon. Whatever happens on planet LayCool, Natalya will win tonight. Winner: Natalya

WWE Tag Team Title: Match Nexus Vs. Vladimir Kozlov & Santino Marella(c)

Ok, so this has only been rumoured but I’m hoping it’s on because it’s a match that I could get into. I’ve warmed to Kozlov and Santino during their Tag Title run because WWE has pushed them as serious performers and not as a comical double act. I’ve long believed that Santino could be a player in the WWE if they let him show just what he can do. Not many people know that he has a background in MMA. Anyway, I’ll save that for another time. Look for Nexus to win this time. CM Punks new stable needs some credibility and some shiny new tag team belts are just the way to do it. Also it sets up a possible feud with The Corre for the belts. Winner: Nexus

WWE Title Match: Randy Orton Vs. The Miz(c)

After TLC I was looking forward to the prospect of the new No 1 contender, John Morrison, facing The Miz for the WWE Title at the Royal Rumble. Then WWE went and blew their load putting the match on PPV. They seriously believe that Randy Orton facing The Miz again will generate for PPV buys than a match-up between former Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz? Maybe it’s just me but I’m not interested in this match-up, I think it’s partly because I feel ripped of about Miz/Morrison not being on the PPV. Anyway it’s my belief that it’s going to be for a good cause but more on that later. Winner: The Miz

World Title Match: Dolph Ziggler Vs. Edge(c)

Now this is an interesting match even if it is one that I should be fairly predictable. The choice of Dolph as No 1 contender surprised me but in a good way. Thinking about it there’s not really I credible No 1 contender on Smackdown and Dolph is ready to move up to the next level. Having said that I seriously doubt that WWE will pull the trigger on a Ziggler title run at this moment in time and I want to see him chase the Title for a bit. Maybe win the Money in the Bank at Wrestlemania if they decide to do one. Winner: Edge

Royal Rumble Match

Now lets be honest out of the 40 Men who legitimately could win it? Maybe 10? What I’m going to do is list the possible winners and why they won’t win and then I’ll give you my pick. First Alberto Del Rio, now I really like this guy. For me he has legend written all over him and will enjoy may World Title reigns, however, he’s just too green to headline Wrestlemania. Expect a good showing from him but not a win.  How about we talk about Triple H. Not officially announced but he still manages to be most peoples No 1 pick. Reports coming from the WWE are that Trips is seen as a feature wrestler now and I don’t see him in a World Title match at Wrestlemania. I see him there in some capacity just not challenging for a title. Now John Cena & CM Punk. I’ll group these two together because I have the same reasons for both. I see both of these men facing each other at Wrestlemania and I don’t think they need to make it a title match to sell it. Lastly let’s talk about Wade Barrett. He’s the NXT season 1 winner and has done a great job so far in his WWE  career. I think he deserves a reward but that thank you will be a match against The Undertaker at Wrestlemania not a Title match. So who’s going to win you ask. Easy. The one man that deserves it more than anyone else on the roster. John Morrison. He’s more ready for the main Event than he’s ever been and if WWE don’t take this chance then they never will. He get such a great crowd reaction and he’s refined his move set in such a way that he can mix his amazing moves with great story telling in the ring. Winner: John Morrison
