Week 4 NCAA Predictions

Scores from every upcoming game
By Paul Bessire, WhatIfSports.com

Each Monday morning will preview every college football DI FBS game of the upcoming week. All of our college football content, including our most recent power rankings and links to the pre-season preview are located here. If you want to take WhatIfSports weekly college football and/or NFL picks with you (to your MySpace, Facebook or personal homepage), please see the widget below on the right or at this page.

The inputs to the 201 simulations of each upcoming game are based on a rigorous analysis of each team that considers strength-of-schedule-adjusted team and player ratings and then makes modifications for injuries and depth at each position. Non-FBS rosters and ratings are not maintained individually due to lack of data. In other words, right or wrong, all non-FBS teams are treated equally.

Games of the Week: #6 LSU 23 @ #13 Auburn 12
After two cupcakes, the SEC schedule kicks off for the defending national champion LSU Tigers with a real test against a true contender for the SEC West title in the Auburn Tigers. (How are there multiple teams in the same conference with the same mascot?)
Not unlike last week's 3-2 barnburner between Auburn and Mississippi State, this is traditionally a hard-fought, close, low-scoring game with major conference and national implications. Expect that for the most part on Saturday; however, LSU and its potent running attack should be able to get to 20. This is probably a race to 14 points. We say Auburn does not make it that far as LSU wins 73.6 percent of the time and by an average score of 23-12.

#5 Georgia 37 @ #40 Arizona State 29
This game looked a lot better before the season when Georgia was #1 in many polls and ASU was being given a shot at the Pac-10 crown. Neither team looked great last week. Georgia struggled against a South Carolina team that had been mostly dismantled the week before on national television and Arizona State looked past UNLV to the tune of a 23-20 home loss.
The fact that neither team has quite lived up to expectations will actually mean that this game should remain close. ASU has a chance to shock the world and Georgia just wants to survive before it gets back in to the brutal SEC schedule. These teams should be able to put points on the board. Georgia wins 87.6% of the time and by an average of 37-29.
