Jeff Fisher Being Fired By Tennesee Titans?

Freddy BlairJan 27, 2011

WSMV the local NBC affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee, are now reporting that Jeff Fisher may be leaving the Tennessee Titans organization as soon as tomorrow.

It was widely rumored that Fisher would be leaving the Titans after this season, fed up with the business end of Bud Adams group.

Most, including myself, thought Fisher would be the leading candidate to take over the Dallas Cowboys if he were to become available, but that opening has been filled by Jason Garrett with a four year deal.

Still, some coaches on the bubble that were surprisingly retained for 2011 thus far may find themselves back on the outside as Fisher's services become available.

Jeff Fisher has coached the Titans/Oilers for over 16 years, and is currently the longest tenured coach in the NFL.

His Titans reached the Super Bowl versus the St Louis Rams and Kurt Warner in 1999, losing 23-16 but with wide receiver Kevin Dyson stretching out just one-foot short of the goal line with the ball after catching a Steve McNair pass.

Struggles over the past three years with Titan's quarterback Vince Young had become a major sticking point with Fisher, and most expected he would be fired at the end of the 2010 season.

Adams, however, chose to retain Fisher at that time, but that now is in question.
