Boeckman Or Pryor? Who Should Obtain Ohio State's Starting Role?
After a leveled loss against a powerful USC team how will Ohio State bounce back? This season was so hyped up for theย veteranย team; nine returning starters on offense, nine returning onย defense, and both kicker and punter. Not to mention all of these returning athletes are the same men that went to the BCS National Championship last year.
So with this highly advertised season what has The Ohio State University football team done thus far in the season? First they crushed a IAA Youngstown State team 43-0. But hey, what highly ranked division I team couldn't perform like that. Also, star running back Chris 'Beanie' Wells went down with a foot injury. Second game and the trouble starts happening. This hyped up team barely pulls a victory against an Ohio Bobcat team that Ohio State hasn't lost to since 1921. Third game comes tumbling in, the preseason mostย anticipatedย game of the season. Well that game wasn't really a game (35-3).ย

So what is wrong with Ohio State? Is the defense no longer the number one in the country? No, that isn't quite it. The defense has playedย fairlyย well against it'sย competitors. The problem lies right along side the same problem that this Ohio State team has had sinceย Louisianaย State title game last January. They just do not have an offense. Without they're leader on the field, Wells, the rushing attack has been slowed down creating it easy to beat up the great team. What Ohio State really needs is a man in the leadership position of the field. A man that can throw the ball downfieldย unafraidย of a turnover or incomplete pass. So the question still stands, who should get the start next week; Todd Boeckman or Terrelle Pryor?ย
Pryor started the season as a man that would be worked into the offense and be mentored behind the gunslinger of starting quarterback Todd Boeckman. But Boeckman really hasn't showed him anything worth learning. Boeckman is has thrown two touchdowns and seven interceptions in his last four games, and has led Ohio State to twoย embarrassingย losses against highly ranked teams giving the Big Ten a weak outlook.ย
But Pryor is still very inexperienced. He hasn't shown that he can read defensive coverages or throw the long ball. In the last three games he has thrown dump pass after dump pass to the running backs on the sides. So can Tressel really make this great athlete live up to all his hype in such a short amount of time? He sure can run aroundย defensesย as if they are standing still. I'm sure each practice he is getting more and moreย comfortableย in the pocket, and with theย connectionsย with hisย receivers. But another huge factor playing in thisย decisionย is that Boeckman is a senior quarterback. By having Pryor start over Boeckman it creates drama to the team, and a freshman taking the leadership of the offense. When's the last time that happened? Oh ya, Brady Quinn taking over the quarterback position from Carlyle Holiday.ย
So should Ohio State stay true to it's senior or make the decision to unleash the greatest freshman athlete of college football?
