A Beautiful Day in Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood: Green Bay Gets To Super Bowl XLV

Mike HodgesJan 23, 2011

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his Green Bay Packers have made their playoff run look easy, as they've defeated teams effortlessly throughout the postseason.

Their defiant victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday evening not only earned them an NFC championship and a ticket to Dallas, but it sent an emphatic statement to the rest of the league that they are legitimate Super Bowl contenders. They defeated the Bears 21-14.

The game was the 182nd between the two rivals, and more or less an unforgettable one for either team.

While hardly playing at his best, Rodgers still managed to run for one touchdown, but it was a tackle on Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher that saved the Packers and showed the heroics of the Packers QB.

"I don't get paid to tackle, but that was probably one of my better plays of the game," Rodgers commented.

What's even more incredible is that Rodgers had a more successful game than all three of Chicago's quarterbacks. While throwing for 244 yards and two interceptions is not that appealing when compared to Rodgers previous postseason games, the fact that the Packers got the win is a more fitting result.

"It's an incredible feeling," Rodgers said. "I'm at a loss for words."

And that win has now set up a competitive final pitting the Packers against Pittsburgh Steelers, who defeated the New York Jets 24-19 to win the AFC championship. It will be the fifth Super Bowl appearance in Packers history and the first since 1998.

For the Steelers, this will be their third Super Bowl appearance in six years; they have won a total of six Super Bowl titles, the most in NFL history.

While the Steelers might be slightly favored to nab the trophy, this will mark an encounter between two of the most storied franchises in NFL history and two of the best quarterbacks in the game today.
