Philadelphia Flyers' Revenge

MIke DusakJan 23, 2011

Philadelphia Flyers 4
Chicago Blackhawks 1

Boom. Roasted.

The Flyers got some sort of revenge in Chicago today by dominating the Blackhawks in their own building. The Flyers clearly had their legs going early and jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the 'Hawks. After shaking off a Marian Hossa goal on a penalty shot (which was bullshit...but i digress), the Flyers were able to hold their water and take care of business.

The bottom line: Great defense, good goaltending, scoring touch equals quality road win.

Flyers goal scored by Jeff Carter (2) Nikolay Zherdev and Scotty Hartnell potting the empty netter.

My trio of stars:

3. Jeff Carter

Amazing passing play with Claude Giroux ended with Cartsy swatting the cross-ice feed out of mid-air and past 'Hawks keeper Corey Crawford. Simply sensational. Cartsy had a great two-way game, playing great in his own zone and stick-checking like Pavel Datsyuk out there.

2. Sergei BobrovskyHe's still looking for that first shutout in his young career, but thats just nitpicking at this point. He was in good position all day and made some really stellar saves late in the second and early in the third period. He just keeps winning...perfect.

1. Claude GirouxG keeps going at an All-Star pace and clearly deserves to be in Raleigh for the festivities. Great pass to Cartsy and he had three primary assists along with one more secondary assist. Every time the kid touches the puck I'm on the edge of my seat; he's got incredible hands, vision, etc. Keep on eating that grilled cheese kid.

The Bad:

The officials. I didn't think that the penalty shot was a good call. It should have been a penalty, especially when the player (Braydon Coburn) was so adamant about the call. Still, I'm being picky, but a call like that could change the momentum of the game.

Looking Ahead:

Next game vs. Canadiens de Montreal on Tuesday at 7:30 on VERSUS. The Flyers are 2-1 vs. the Habs this year and might have a mental edge due to last spring's playoff beatdown. (Thanks to CB and A-flow for the spot on the record)
