New Jersey Devils Continue Streak: Something To Celebrate?

Joseph HigginsJan 20, 2011

Yes and no.

Of course a victory over one of the league's best teams is something that you can come away being happy with. But you need to look at the bigger picture. The Pittsburgh Penguins were without arguably their three best players (over the years) in Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury.

The Devils had all their best players starting. Brodeur was awarded with a shutout, stopping all of Pittsburgh's 23 shots.

The victory was more of a morale booster than anything; just imagine what would've happened if Malkin and Crosby were on the ice and Fleury in net.

I'm not hating on the Devils; they're my favorite team, and I've stood by them this entire season. I would just hate to see them get cocky and think they're untouchable right now, as they are 4-0-1 in their last five games.

Focus must remain intact with all Devils personnel. That is, if they want to keep winning games. The Devils still face Philadelphia, Detroit and Florida before the All-Star break: not so easy. If New Jersey can win two out of the three, then their momentum could be carried onto the other half of the season.

Parise's return could really change the Devils season around, providing his recovery from his injury allows his play to stay the way it was.

Bottom line: Victory against Pittsburgh was huge, and now they need to keep looking forward and continue their streak. Use the momentum of the win to help make them a better team for the rest of the season.
