Cincinnati Bengals' Fans Beware, The Bungles Are Back!

Michael ClineSep 15, 2008

You thought they were gone, like Terry Bradshaw's hair and Chad Johnson's flair. Gone like the stadium that once housed these fiends of the field.

It was beginning to be only a memory swept to the back of your mind. The years of shame and scorn, the seasons spent wondering if they'd even win a game at all; those days were supposed to be gone.

But, look what has reared it's ugly head. Those yellow eyes staring at you from behind the green jungle grass growing so vehemently along the walls of Paul Brown Stadium. And you thought they were just paint.

If you listen closely you can hear their growl. That deep, moan that warns of deplore.

How? How can this be. With all the No. 1 picks and all the money spent. How can this possibly be?

Well my friend, it be. The Bungles are back!

Maybe I'm speculating, but who doesn't speculate? Or maybe I'm jumping to conclusions. "Besides", as I'm sure you'll say, "it's only the second week of the year." But I say, if we don't watch our backs, these Bungles will be on us like they were in 2002.

Do you remember 2002?

Let me refresh your memory; The Bengals started the season 0-7 before they got their first win. They finished 2-14, the laughing stock of the NFL.

Those were terrible times my orange and black striped friends. And it would be an utter shame to have to revisit those days.

Let me give you cause for concern:

  • Carson Palmer has 25 completions on 51 tries for 228 yards. That's not in one game folks, but in two! Let us add the zero touchdowns, and 3 interceptions and what we have is a quarterback rating of 37.1. The worst in the NFL.
  • Chris Perry, the leading rusher, is averaging 2.7 yards per carry. He has scored one touchdown, but has fumbled 3 times. On the upside, he only lost one of them.
  • The receivers on the team have caught 28 passes, but not noted is that they've fumbled 4 of them.
  • Defensively, the team is allowing 326.5 yards per game, and 41 points per game.
I plead for you to take necessary precautions, and avoid contact with these Bungles if you see them lingering around your neighborhoods.
Beware!
Though Bungles are by no means dangerous, the are pesky and tend to want to stay around for longer than welcome.
Consider yourselves warned.
