Carmelo Anthony Trade Rumors: It's Time for the New York Knicks to Strike

Sal DeRoseJan 19, 2011

With the New Jersey Nets pulling out of the race to snatch up Carmelo Anthony, the New York Knicks can strike, and now is the best time to do it.

It's been no doubt that the All-Star forward would end up wearing the blue and orange in New York.

Earlier in the week, Donnie Walsh, the Knicks' president and general manager, made it clear that he can trade for a couple of first-round picks and maybe even more for Anthony.

The Knicks can opt to wait until free agency. But why take the chance?

It's now well known that if the Knicks were to trade with Denver they would lose Landry Fields, Wilson Chandler or Danilo Gallinari.

The Knicks want Anthony, so let's put what he said to rest.

They don't only want him but they need him to become a serious threat in the East.

A seriously devastating lineup awaits the Knicks if they can sign Anthony. The possibility of Chris Paul coming to the Garden would be ideal as well.

The Knicks really don't even need Chris Paul that much because of the outstanding play of free agent pickup Raymond Felton.

The most the Knicks will lose out of such a trade is Anthony Randolph, and two of the three players mentioned before: Fields, Chandler or Gallinari.

That isn't bad at all. The Knicks can still field a solid team with the pieces they have and the bench that they will have.

Only time will tell who will join the Knicks in a blockbuster move to land Carmelo in the place he really wants to play, New York.

The shining lights, the adoring fans and the possibility of a team that will compete and try to tear down the Big Three in Miami.

The Knicks have to pull a fast deal together before the Nuggets trade Anthony to a team that will only rent him. But even then, the Knicks could sign Anthony in the off season, and make one heck of a team.
