Brotherly Love: A Win-Lose Situation

Jim McNultySep 15, 2008

Nothing gets the City of Brotherly Love fired up like Dallas Week. Add Monday Night Football to the mix, and the rivalry gets downright combustible.

Add to that a little sibling rivalry with a head-to-head fantasy football matchup, and "brotherly love" takes a back seat.

My brother leads by five points going into tonight. I have L.J. Smith and David Akers. He has Brian Westbrook. Crap.

I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't hoping for a night of "McNabb to DeSean, all night long."  It has a nice ring to it. (I wonder if I can get it on bumper stickers?)

But the Eagles need a healthy dose of No. 36 tonight to win. You look back over the years, and it's obvious. The Cowboys know that, too.

You can't imagine for a second that they're scared of the Eagles' three 100-yard receivers from last week. Tank crystallized that very nicely for us. You can excuse him—he's new here.

Does that open Hank, Jason, or DeSean to another big night? Likely not, at least not all three. L.J. over the middle certainly helps my cause, but Smith hasn't been the gamebreaker we all hoped he'd be.

That means everyone's favorite Villanova grad (with respects to Howie Long and my dad) will be involved early and often—and not just in the running game. Last week, his absence from the passing game was an aberration.

With ours being a PPR league, every shovel pass, every screen, and every dump off in the flat is a dagger in my team's chances to win.

We've all heard about "taking one for the team." So I'll sit, and I'll cheer, and I'll absorb the taunting text messages from my younger brother.

As long as the Eagles win.

Winning the fantasy matchup with an Eagles loss is an empty victory.

Losing both? Now that would just suck.
