WWE Royal Rumble: 10 One-on-One Main Event Matchups We Can't Wait To See
Just mere weeks away, The Royal Rumble is right around the corner.
We have three main events set up:
First, the 40-man over the top battle royal to look forward to, the largest Rumble in the history of the Royal Rumble. Sure to have some returns, some surprises and a whole bunch of other WWE superstars.
Second The Miz vs. Randy Orton for the WWE championship. Continuing the feud between Orton and The Miz as it has escalated week after week since The Miz has won the title.
Third, Edge vs. Dolph Zigler for the World Heavyweight Championship. I believe I called this one a while ago. It was only a matter of time before Vickie Guerrero's "new boyfriend vs. ex-husband" match took place.
But what other main event matches would we like to see happen, and what stipulations should go with them?
The Miz Vs. Jerry The King Lawler For The WWE Title
1 of 12
Randy Orton is getting another shot at The Miz and his WWE title, and as John Cena said on Monday Night Raw, he's not the only one who was close to taking the gold away from Miz.
Jerry "The King" Lawler needs another shot; heck, I say put the belt on him for a week. Then have him lose it horribly or even just decide to vacate it and then we get a nice big tournament for the title.
We need a special condition for this match however, dangling above the ring is the WWE title, so the superstars will have to scale the ladder to the top to get the belt.
But this isn't your typical belt dangling from a rope match. the belt will actually dangle from a small pod that will also be hung high above the ring.
Inside that pod: Michael Cole.
Edge Vs. Christian In a TLC Match
2 of 12
We all want it to happen.
Brother vs. Brother...sorta.
When Christian returns to WWE, he should no doubt go to his former tag team partner and tell him he owes Christian a shot at the title. That if it wasn't for him, Edge wouldn't be who he is today.
Christian would go on to cite all those times Edge has challenged someone to a TLC match and claimed that its 'His' match.
He'd point out to him that the other people who were made famous by the TLC matches aren't doing so well today, and that he should realize that it was Christian who carried them through their championships.
Edge, of course, being humored and insulted, would indeed give his friend a match, and make it a TLC match to show that he is truly the master of that match, and not Christian.
CM Punk Vs. John Cena In a Three Stages Of Hell Match
3 of 12
The feud between these two has the potential to last for a very long time. In the same way that Cena and Edge went back and forth for the title years ago, Punk and Cena have that same chemistry, Nexus or no Nexus.
But to just have a standard match where we know Cena very well may dominate with his Hulk strength and indomitable will. This needs to be something more, these guys need to go through Hell.
Three stages of it.
Match 1 - Submission match. This gives us the STF vs. The Anaconda Vice. We haven't seen the Vice in quite some time and its about time it reared its evil head.
Match 2 - Finisher match. Who can get the other up on their shoulders, one to deliver the AA, the other the GTS. Once the finisher move is hit, match is over.
Match 3- No holds barred, falls count anywhere, end of the PG Era hardcore match. Cena and Punk have both shown they can take a beating and keep going. Let's put their insane drives to the test and see whose will is stronger.
Alberto Del Rio Vs. Kofi Kingston For The IC Title
4 of 12
Del Rio needs some gold on his waist, and I think the IC belt is the place to start, but to really pull it off I think he needs someone in his corner besides that creeper ring announcer.
He needs the man who started the whole driving to the ring, and and wearing a towel around his neck, he needs a Wrestling God to give him some advice. Let's bring in JBL.
From one side of the ring up pulls Alberto, from the other side of the stage pulls up JBL, Mexico and Texas are neighbors, and they both consider themselves elitists.
What a better manager than the former Acolyte, John Bradshaw Layfield?
Poor Kofi wouldn't stand a chance.
The Big Show Vs. Ezekiel Jackson
5 of 12
Clash of the monsters.
The mammoth Big Show and his devastating knock out punch goes up against the beast of a man, Ezekiel Jackson.
My bet, is that Jackson can pick up Big Show.
Cena's gotten him up on his shoulders, so I'd have to say I bet big Zeke could get him up there as well. This match needs to end with either the ring breaking or the arena coming down.
It would be a great nod to the matches when Lesnar took on Show. Good times.
Rey Mysterio Vs. Kane (Mask Match)
6 of 12
What's better than Rey vs. another high flyer? Rey vs. a big man.
The match has been done, Kane was the man to take the belt from Rey, and even his mask at one point, maybe we can have Rey goad Kane into putting his mask back on, tell him to make it a battle of masks.
This of course would backfire on Rey as the mask would unleash the demon inside of Kane and release his insanity back into the ring of WWE and continue to end the PG era as Kane goes on a massive rampage, destroying all in his path.
The Big Returns
7 of 12
Those six matches would be great but even better would be some big returns to put some feuds to bed or to get them back up and running for some major greatness.
Here's four more main event matches we want to see but have to wait for one of the participants to return.
Triple H Vs. Sheamus
8 of 12
The battle of the Kings.
Sheamus came out last week screaming that no one was in his league because he was the King of WWE, I as well as others thought for sure we would hear Triple H's music hit and have H storm the stage.
It seems as though he may be waiting for the Rumble for his return, and what better way to do so by not only eliminating Sheamus, but eliminating himself along with him.
His fury would be unmatched as he beat Sheamus senseless in the ring, tossed him over the top and then followed him to continue beating him.
Why not, H doesn't need to win the Rumble to go to Mania, he can just win the belt at The Elimination Chamber.
Randy Orton Vs. Chris Jericho
9 of 12
You don't punt the man who is the best there is at what he does in the head and get away with it.
Jericho needs to return at the Rumble as well, first by interfering in The Miz's match causing him to retain the title and then showing up to the Rumble as a participant.
This would then lead into a good reason as to why Randy would come running and also be a participant in the Rumble match.
Regardless of who wins it, you now have some good heat going into The Elimination Chamber.
Orton and Jericho hating on each other, and both dissing The Miz.
The Miz, of course, trying to assure them that he is worth their attention.
This will give us some tag team matches of Orton and Jericho vs. Miz and Alex Riley and such, before the big event.
Evan Bourne Vs. John Morrison
10 of 12
Evan Bourne should be returning soon from his shoulder injury and it would be great to see him go up against the parkour expert, Morrison.
Morrison was always a high flyer when him and Bourne went at it in the past, but this recent element of adding the Parkour and more moves to his arsenal would make for a great match to go up against the gravity-defying Bourne.
(I mean look at him: how does he float like that?)
Wade Barrett Vs. Undertaker
11 of 12
The return of the Deadman to go up against the man who was just as responsible for burying him, Wade Barrett.
We still don't know why Barrett buried the Undertaker and assisted Kane with that match and now that Wade is on Smackdown, maybe we'll get some answers.
The two big men will probably stand toe to toe, in fact Barrett almost has the same build and could easily pass as a younger Undertaker.
Who knows, maybe we'll have a torch passed.
Days Away Until The Rumble
12 of 12
Only three matches have been announced at this time and with the Rumble being 40 men rather than 30, it will most likely take up quite a bit of time of the event.
I personally can't wait; it's my favorite event of the year.
