Manchester United Young Loaned Stars : The Future's Bright, The Future's Red

Tom KellyJan 18, 2011

With 2 games and 6 goals between them and Manchester City, Manchester United are already flying high at the top of the table. However young talent is a commodity that no manager can afford to forget about, even when they seem to have everything going for them. With rival clubs Chelsea and Arsenal producing hotly tipped prospects like Daniel Sturridge, Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere, Sir Alex has been sure of finding his own young talents, many of whom have been impressing whilst gaining experience in other Premier League sides

Mame Biram Diouf is one player who has managed to shine right from the start of the season, after joining his namesake El Hadji Diouf at Blackburn. In his debut for the club he scored a Hat-trick against Norwich, allowing Blackburn to easily progress to the third round of the Carling Cup. Despite not finding such prolific form in the Premier League, he is still one of Blackburn's top scorers. Since taking over from Sam Allardyce, Steve Kean has started Mame Biram in every premier league match, a strong indication that he has a lot of faith in the twenty-three year old Senegalese forward.

Before being struck down by a hamstring injury he received against Aston Villa, Danny Welbeck, a twenty year old striker on loan from the Red Devils had scored six goals for Sunderland. This was a promising showing from such a young player, who has done well to integrate into the Sunderland first team beside Asamoah Gyan and Darren Bent, his strong performances leading to Sunderland Manager Steve Bruce playing him in every match of the season that he has been available for. He has been a big part of a successful season for Sunderland, seeing them sitting at sixth in the table and Steve Bruce will be anxious to get him back to full fitness.

Welbeck isn't the only player out on loan who was impressive prior to injury. Before sustaining a hamstring injury against Bolton, Tom Cleverly had proved himself worthy of being a regular in the Wigan midfield, popping in three very impressive goals along the way. The twenty-one is hoping to rejoin his temporary team-mates in mid-February to help them continue their fight to get out of the bottom three.

If this improvement continues in all these players, Sir Alex will have even more options at his disposal in the coming seasons, when team depth could prove crucial as an increased number of teams make serious and threatening title bids.
