Cote: Biggest Upset Ever With Victory Over Pound For Pound King Anderson Silva
Could October 25th potentially be the biggest upset in UFC history? Many Canadians sure hope so, as that night Canadian UFC veteran Patrick "The predator" Cote(13-4mma 4-4 ufc) will take on which many consider MMA pound for pound king Anderson "The Spider" Silva(22-4mma 7-0ufc) for the middleweight belt. As much as all those Canadians, me included want Cote to beat Silva, we know chances are very slim, but still manage to find hope. Presently Cote is on fire with a 4 fight winning streak and hopes to make it 5 putting the belt around his waist. He hits hard and he can take a shot, but will be able withstand a barrage of punches and kicks from Silva? Upsets have been huge in the UFC lately and every dog has his day, will UFC 90 be Patrick Cotes?
When Patrick first came into the UFC he had to fight Tito Ortiz in his first fight, which wasn't an easy task at the time but Patrick stood tall and held his own bringing the fight to a decision, which he lost via unanimous. Cote didn't fare much better losing his next 3 fights to Joe Derkson, Chris Leban and Travis Lutter in the UFC. However prior losing to Travis Lutter he was able to make it to the finals of The Ultimate Fighter. Since those 4 loses Cote has been able to bounce back with 4 straight wins to bring his UFC record to an even 4-4 inside the UFC. Those victories were over Scott Smith, Kendall Grove , Drew McFedries and Ricardo Almeida, two of which were by (T)KO via first round. Cote hopes to have found his stride at the right time as he hopes to continue on rolling against The Spider and make it five straight wins inside the octagon.
Cote's shown that he can hit hard as he's won 6 of his 13 fights via (T)KO (46.15%) and 3 of his last 5. Cote loves to fight standing up and in interviews he's said that he intends on pushing the pace and engaging in a stand up war. Might not be the most intelligent thing! That's what James Irvin said prior to his fight with Silva and we all know what happened during that entire minute and change. The Spider has been absolutely devastating inside the Octagon stopping all of his opponents within the first two rounds. Cote's also shown he can take a punch as he's yet to be stopped via (T)KO in any of his fights, we see it especially in his fight with McFedries where he took a massive shot but shook it off and knocked Drew out seconds later. Cote will defiantly need to be able to take a shot or two if he plans on beating Anderson because in order to hit him you'll probably have to take a shot or two.
Upsets have been a huge part of the UFC as of recent , 3 of the biggest have been within the past 2 years, the biggest being Matt Serra over fellow Canadian Georges St. Pierre. Cote has a chance to redeem Rush and become apart of the biggest upset in UFC history, finally putting a Canadian on the better end of the upset. This won't come easy as Anderson Silva is on a 7 fight win streak inside the UFC and a weakness is yet to be found. Cote will hope to prove that Silva is indeed human and can be beaten. What an upset it would be!
Coming into this fight, Cote's a huge underdog and not many people are giving Cote a chance at winning this fight. Truthfully he hasn't any aspects in his fighting regimen that are better then Silva which makes it really hard for anyone to pick Cote to beat Silva, but the faithful will stay faithful and hopefully cheer Cote into victory October, 25th at UFC 90. The longer this fight goes on the more confident Cote will become, but doesn't necessarily give him an advantage, who really does have a striking advantage when it comes to Anderson? Cote's best chances to winning this fight is to come out swinging and hope he can land a bomb putting Anderson asleep before he has his chance to work his magic and place Cote in la la land. While still a month away one can't stop thinking about how important this fight is for Cote as it could help to place his name in legend books with a win over one of the best of all time. COTE...COTE...COTE....COTE....COTE.....COTE!!
