WWE's Wrestlemania XXVII: The Dream Card for the Granddaddy of Them All
It's about two and half months till Wrestlemania XXVII in Atlanta.
In my opinion the past two have been lackluster with the exceptions of the Undertaker/HBK matches. It sounds like the WWE wants to make a big statement this year with rumors abound for matchups at this years premier event.
With the push for younger stars to make a statement what better place to do it then at the Grand Daddy of Them All in Wrestlemania pay-per-view. They could also revitalize the Women's and Tag Team divisions with quality matches.
In my opinion there doesn't need to be a lot of matches to fill the three-hour extravaganza. To me the longer the match means a better quality match. I also predict there will be a few gimmick matches as well to gain the draw most desperately needed.
Without further interruption onto the predictions....
Honorable Mention: RAW Nexus Vs Smackdown Nexus: Elimination Tag Team Match
1 of 11
I see it happening at some point with the splintering of the original Nexus with Wade Barrett, Heath Slater, and Justin Gabriel moving to Smackdown! and being joined by the powerhouse Ezekiel Jackson. And with how CM Punk unceremoniously dumped Barrett, this could be a good feud that turns one of the factions face leading into Wrestlemania.
On RAW we have the multi-generational Michael McGillicutty and Husky Harris, David Otunga, and leader CM Punk. This new Nexus has one of the best superstars today in Punk and in my opinion someone that needs another line of work (Otunga). In-between they have rising stars in McGillicutty and Harris. This group lacks the one thing Smackdown Nexus has, an enforcer in Ezekiel Jackson.
I see Barrett and company as the faces in this match-up only because CM Punk is the top heel at this moment. Slater and Gabriel were both faces on the first NXT and Jackson just turned heel this past Friday.
This match-up is would be well worth the watch just because it would highlight all aspects of wrestling with Gabriel and Slater's speed, the all around goods with McGillicutty and Harris, the power games of Otunga and Jackson, and CM Punk and Barrett technical wrestling.
While I think this is a good match that either way puts over young stars I don't see it happening mostly because of how I see other events playing out in the WWE.
6-Man Gauntlet Match For #1 Contendership
2 of 11
Christian vs Drew McIntyre vs Alberto Del Rio vs Ted DiBiase vs Rey Mysterio vs Kofi Kingston
With the Money In The Bank becoming it's own pay-per-view I don't see that match being on the Wrestlemania Card. However having a legitimate #1 Contenders match here could let some young superstars hit that Wrestlemania moment.
While I'd like to see this as a cage match or hell in the cell match, I'm not sure it could hold all of these stars at once. So I elect to go with a gauntlet match. These would have to be quick matches that I believe each competitor could excel in. I also think there is a good mix of veteran and up and coming superstars with this match.
It could come down to the two main veterans in Christian and Rey Mysterio or possibly a young superstar in DiBiase or McIntyre could go at each other. This could be a match made for Kofi and Christian if either superstar starts the match-up in the ring. Both have outstanding stamina in the ring and could go the distance.
How about two similar gimmicks in Del Rio vs. Ted DiBiase? What about the two of the best high fliers in the company in Mysterio vs Kingston? Any combination of these six competitors could make an intriguing match for the #1 Contendership.
Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match For The WWE Tag Team Championship
3 of 11
5 team match Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match
Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel vs. Michael McGillicutty & Husky Harris vs. Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov vs. The Usos vs. Battle Royal Winning Team
The dark match for the card will be a Tag Team Battle Royal involving basically any wrestler not already involved in a match on the card already. A team that has been mentioned because of chemistry they both had in FCW is Darren Young & Percy Watson. Another good team that should be on a roster is the team of Hunico & Epico. They are high flying luchadores that could bring something to the match.
If one of these FCW products is wins the battle royal both could bring a lot into this match. This match has lots of potential and already places feuds already teased or started in the WWE. This get's the two factions of Nexus together against each other and a continuation of the feud of Santino & Kozlov and the Usos. Adding another team just to add some flair makes this all the more intriguing.
Wouldn't we like to see the Usos perform a frog splash from the top of the ladder. Or Gabriel performing the 450 splash onto an opponent lying on a table.
Either way this match could be a great match and bring back a little nostalgia for the Tag Team Division.
United States/Intercontinental Unification Match
4 of 11
Daniel Bryan vs Jack Swagger
This has 5 star match written all over it. These are two rising stars in the company both needing a high profile match to prove themselves as the future of the company.
As much as I hate to say, I see Jack Swagger taking the Intercontinental Title by Wrestlemania from Kofi Kingston. While Kofi vs Bryan would also be a entertaining match, I'd like to see two technical wrestlers go at it.
This is the battle of the Labell Lock vs the Ankle Lock. Plus it's seems that the WWE wants to unify all the titles eventually and this is a perfect spot. I could see separate title matches for both but I think this match would bring out the best in the two competitors.
Daniel Bryan is one of the best performers in the WWE and Jack Swagger is one of the many young stars in the company. This match could make the winner a legitimate claim as world champion in by holding the Intercontinental and US championships. That alone could make turn this into a feud for the World Title.
Fatal 4-Way Match For The Divas Title
5 of 11
Melina vs Natalya vs Beth Phoenix vs Michelle McCool
It's sad to say that the Women's division has dwindled to what it is today. Every so often the Divas are given a chance to shine and have in the past. Michelle McCool vs Melina a couple years ago for the title was actually a good Divas match because they were given some time to do quality spots in the match. Also the Natalya/Beth Phoenix vs LayCool match was alright and had good spots as well.
This is a match that pits the best of the best of the Divas. The combination of these four wrestlers and given more than 5 minutes for the match could actually make a match of the year candidate. Beth and Natalya bring the pure wrestling technique while Melina and Michelle bring the veteran leadership and flexibility that can make for good spots. This could begin another rejuvenation of women's wrestling in the WWE.
The Streak Match
6 of 11
Undertaker vs Wade Barrett
Of my card this is probably the one most likely to happen. The Undertaker Wrestlemania Streak will be on the line against newcomer Wade Barrett. Despite the fact that Barrett's rise in the WWE has been meteoric and without winning a title has been rather surprising since his counterpart in Sheamus has 2 world title reigns.
Well this is the match spawned out of the Buried Alive Match where Nexus helped Kane defeat the Undertaker. The front office doesn't want the Undertaker to have to improve on the previous two Wrestlemania's and not have to make the big spots.
Wade Barrett can use this match regardless to bump his star within the company. Without even defeating the Undertaker as long as the match is decent makes this worthy for this card.
This all depends if the Undertaker even is healthy by Wrestlemania.
King Of Kings Match
7 of 11
Triple H vs King Sheamus with special guest referee Jerry 'The King' Lawler
The title of the match is rather self explanatory. I see this re-match from last year's Wrestlemania going down for the title of King of Kings.
While I see Triple H returning at the Royal Rumble I do not see him as the winner of that match. Going into the Elimination Chamber match both Sheamus and Trips will be involved in the RAW title match but both cost each other the title. So this rivalry starting last year will finally finish up at Wrestlemania XXVII.
Unlike last year I see this as an evenly performed match. These two can go back and forth with each other, while still hitting big spots. I don't see Lawler screwing over either opponent but to tease his involvement Sheamus has a mini feud with the Hall of Famer over the title of King between the Rumble and Wrestlemania.
This has the potential to be a match talked about for years if performed right. Besides let's see who has the better weapon: Triple H's sledgehammer vs. Sheamus' long shelalei.
World Heavyweight Title Match
8 of 11
Edge vs Dolph Ziggler w/ Vickie Guererro
I actually see this return match at Wrestlemania happening. But it depends on how Dolph performs at the Royal Rumble against Edge. Funnily this feud is more about Edge vs Vickie but Dolph is a great competitor and could possibly have a great match as well.
This is a feud that could be just as great at the Miz/Morrison feud if played right. The history between Edge and Vickie is the primary part of this feud between Edge and Dolph.
Dolph has had the same type of year as Morrison where in the start he was rather buried on the roster to only flash at the right time. His matches against Daniel Bryan and Kaval were quality matches which are the reason he's getting the opportunity at the Royal Rumble.
Edge on the other hand hasn't had a decent feud since last year and even that was dropped by the WWE as well. This could be a feud of the year and has the potential for great matches.
Grudge Match
9 of 11
Chris Jericho vs Randy Orton
This has Wrestlemania written all over this match-up. I believe Jericho will return before Wrestlemania and either cost Orton because of the punting incident back in September that sidelined the best of the best.
This is match that WWE needs to prove they can put main event matches together that don't always involve a world title. I also believe Jericho can bring out the best in Orton as both a perfectionists when it comes to performing in the ring.
This could also be just the beginning of a feud that could continue for awhile and possibly see a role reversal down the line where Jericho is the face and Orton the heel. This is a match that has that interchangeable dynamic in either performer is just as good a face as a heel.
This all comes down to if Jericho does re-sign and Orton is healthy as he has a nagging injury for the lead-in to Wrestlemania. Even if Orton takes time off after this match, the WWE could set-up a future encounters between these two superstars.
WWE Title Match
10 of 11
The Miz vs John Morrison
This is match made for Wrestlemania. Former tag team champions facing each other for the top title, means gold when it's these two competitors. They already showed the potential of this match on RAW earlier this year.
Both of these superstars need that Wrestlemania moment and I believe they can bring out the best in each other. This match comes about because I believe with what Morrison has shown in the past two pay-per-views he will win the Royal Rumble and challenge the Miz for the WWE Title.
Morrison brings the flash to the Miz's ground game. The Miz has improved and has the charisma to be a champion and face of the WWE. Morrison has the wrestling skills to be a top contender and has decent charisma as well. If the IWC thinks the first match as match of the year quality just wait for the bright lights of biggest event and I guarantee both show their metal.
They've faced each other a couple times always with the Miz coming out on top but could things change at Wrestlemania XXVII?
Straight Edge/Nexus Vs Hustle, Loyalty and Respect Match
11 of 11
CM Punk vs John Cena
Literally this is just another grudge match and should be the conclusion of their feud. The feud has started with CM Punk bashing Cena's gimmick of hustle, loyalty, and respect showing how Cena is the exact opposite in attacking Nexus and bringing WWE down with him. I think this could be a top feud if done right but continuing the Nexus/Cena angle diminishes this a bit.
Punk can basically carry this match if he wants to. Cena can shine at the right times as well. This combined and putting their respective gimmicks on the line for a match-up at Wrestlemania could make it well worth it. Cena looses, he's really got nothing left in the WWE and if CM Punk looses it's the end of the RAW Nexus faction. This brings a good quality to the match-up between two top draws.
