OSU Gets Crushed and Shows True Colors: Can They Revive Their Team?

Isaac LuberSep 13, 2008

A few minutes ago, the game ended.  Before the game, many said that it would be the best of the season.  I knew the hype was overrated.

In the first quarter, Ohio State came out with a lot of determination; they were able to score first, as they did for both National Championships where they were blown out, and held USC to a touchdown late in the quarter.

At that point, I started to doubt my decision about saying Ohio State was overrated.  Then, in the second quarter, USC got going and Ohio State just could not keep up.  Sanchez threw a touchdown pass and an interception returned for a touchdown put USC up 21-3 at half.

The second half was dominated by USC and Sanchez had four TDs in the game.  He could've had more, but USC put in their second-string in the fourth quarter.  That is an embarrassment for OSU, especially because the second-string was still dominating Ohio State.

Now, as before, people will laugh at Ohio State.  Thanks to the overrated Buckeyes, the Big 10 has lost its credibility...again.  Ohio State's talent was arguably second in the nation, close behind USC's.  There is no excuse for Ohio State to embarrass the Big 10 and lose that badly when the match-up is so close on paper.

Ohio State fans please don't use Beanie Wells as an excuse.  You can't use an excuse for the two National Championship blowouts, so you can't use him now.

USC is just clearly a more determined team.  They outplayed and out-coached Ohio State easily.  Whether Ohio State chokes or they are bad is still not clear, but choking seems more plausible.

For all the people who watched the game and were disappointed, I warned you.  I told everyone that it would be a blowout and no one believed me and some people even cursed me out for it.  Now those people just look stupid.

Now the question is, "Can Ohio State rebuild?"

After two National Championship blowouts, the Buckeyes team was looking to redeem themselves and their name.  After they were blown out in another big game, I'm not sure if they can rebuild from this one.  Ohio State has spent the last two years in a state of anger and disappointment and they have been training for the whole offseason to get to this moment and redeem themselves.  They failed miserably.

Now, as Ohio State runs home with their tails between their legs, they are even more disappointed.  They no longer are credible and have lost their chance to redeem themselves.  Even if they didn't win and made it close, they would've been cleared.  Being blown out like this has completely demoralized the team.

Ohio State will still probably have a 10-2 or a 9-3 season this year, but this loss was devastating and it may take years for them to recover from it.  It may take until the freshmen at Ohio State graduate to get over this loss and back onto the road to glory.

Good luck to Ohio State fans nationwide, you've got a tough road ahead.
