USC-Ohio State: Trojans Show Why They're Ranked No. 1

Tonight USC served notice to Ohio State, "There is a reason we are ranked No. 1 and you're not."

With microscopic precision, Pete Carroll first dissected the Buckeyes defense, and then went to work on the offense.

The offense seemed to be in a penalty laden coma for most of the contest.

There were so many yellow flags flying around, the FAA posted an air traffic controller at the game.  

How many times in the past have we watched this same game? It's like watching Ground Hog Day, except Bill Murray has been replaced by Jim Tressel.

Two BCS champsionship games, both with quick scores by Ohio State, and then implosion. First against Florida, and then LSU.

Same game, same result, this time it's USC.

Jim, in case you didn't get the memo, this is college football, and you're coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, a perennial Big Ten powerhouse.

It is time to get your head out of your buckeye and figure out why you have some of the most talented players in the country, but you can't score a touchdown!

You were in the red zone two times early, the first time on the 2-yard line, after a string of penalties and a missed field goal, you had three points. The only points you got all night.

Sure, you were without Chris Wells, your star running back.

This should not be a gamebreaker. You have other weapons.

If this is a sign of things to come when you have a player injured, then just forget the rest of the season.

News flash: There is always someone injured!

I do see a silver lining in all this.

You have saved yourself from another embarrassing BCS title game.
