Arsene Wenger Will Try To Keep the Struggling Andrey Arshavin at Arsenal

...........Jan 14, 2011

Arsenal fans have become very frustrated with the Russian winger Andrey Arshavin as of late, but it appears that Arsenal are not ready to part with the struggling player. Arsene Wenger admits he is “desperate” to keep Andrey Arshavin at Arsenal Football Club.

Many have speculated that Arshavin will move away from the Gunners this January, with some fans even calling for him to be sold in this transfer window. Recently the media have linked the Russian midfielder with a move away but, speaking at Friday’s press conference, the Arsenal manager revealed that no clubs had approached him about Arshavin and no offers would be welcome.

“We have had no contact,” said Wenger. “As far as I know, I believe he and his wife are happy in London but what is very important as well is that I am very happy with him.”

Le Prof admits that Arshavin is suffering a dip in form. “As soon as a player doesn’t play fantastically well, he is criticized,” said Wenger. “We all know that.” He continued, “I personally believe he is a great player he is going through a period where it is more difficult at the moment. But he works very hard in training his attitude is fantastic and I am desperate to keep him.”

It has been suggested that his current form is the cause of all of the speculation about Arshavin’s future at the club. The pressure that Arshavin gets when he plays at the Emirates may not help his attitude and we all are aware of how his attitude affects his performances.

Wenger points to the fact that he has had a very busy season so far to excuse his lackluster performances saying, “he has played almost every single game since the start of the season he has played for his national team as well and he is physically a bit less fresh. But he will come back stronger than ever because he works very hard in training.”

Wasn’t the solution to that benching Arshavin in favor of starting Walcott? The desired effect had not been garnered as Arshavin’s form is not much better than before.

One of the problems that the fans have is they don’t see how hard Arshavin works in training. All they can draw from are his performances on match day and he leaves very little to be confident about. Wenger often brings up performances in training when talking about players who are not performing well.

Hopefully the Russian can turn his form around and really is working hard in training. He is capable of great things and since Wenger is trying to keep him at Arsenal Arshavin should show Wenger that he has not misplaced his confidence on Arshavin.
