2011 NFL Draft: Which Teams Could Ruin The Tennessee Titans Draft Plans?

Blaize PenningtonJan 12, 2011

Though it is not certain, the popular belief is that the Tennessee Titans will draft a quarterback with their eighth overall pick.

But whom should they take? Blaine Gabbert seems to be the favorite of the “experts” at ESPN, but is that really the best quarterback in the draft?

It may not matter, as there are a lot of teams that need quarterbacks this year. Let’s take a look at who could take a quarterback before the Titans get to pick eighth overall.

1. Carolina PanthersThis all depends on if they have given up on Jimmy Clausen. It was only his first year, after all.

Taking any quarterback besides Andrew Luck, who is returning to Stanford, with the first overall pick would be a waste. Not to mention that with a defensive coordinator coming in as head coach, I’d expect a defensive player with his first pick.

2. Denver BroncosWe still do not know who the head coach will be. Tebow has played very well, but the new head coach may not like him. However, unless Tebow is traded, don’t look for the Broncos to take a first-round quarterback for the second year in a row.

3. Buffalo BillsChan Gailey has said that Ryan Fitzpatrick is his man. Now, this could be smoke and mirrors, or he really does expect Fitzpatrick to be his franchise quarterback. It would not be surprising to see the Bills go with a quarterback here.

4. Cincinnati BengalsThe time of Carson Palmer may be coming to an end. He had two receivers who will probably end up in the Hall of Fame, on top of a pretty good running game, and could not get the job done. The Bengals could very well go quarterback with the fourth overall draft pick.

5. Arizona CardinalsMax Hall does not seem to be the answer in Phoenix. Maybe the Cardinals give him one more year, or maybe they start from scratch and grab a top caliber quarterback.

6. Cleveland BrownsColt McCoy is playing well right now. The Browns should focus on improving their defense or getting McCoy some toys.

7. San FranciscoIt's Jim Harbaugh’s first year as an NFL head coach, so it will probably be a surprise to us all what he does on draft day. He will have to take a hard look at Alex Smith and Troy Smith, and decide if he likes one of them or if he wants to start over.

So it looks like the Panthers, Broncos, Bills, Bengals, Cardinals, and 49ers could all end up drafting a quarterback ahead of the Titans.
