Carmelo Anthony Trade Rumors and 10 Sports Stories We Can't Stop Reading About

Adam FromalJan 12, 2011

It seems as though all season long, speculation abounds as to where Carmelo Anthony will end up.

Will he remain a Denver Nugget or will he be traded to the New Jersey Nets? What about some other team?

One thing is for sure though. If a story comes out about Carmelo Anthony and where he may be playing basketball for the next few years, we will read about it.

So without further ado, I present to you the 10 sports stories that we just can't get enough of.

This jersey is the reason that everyone speculates about the current Nuggets superstar.

He's said he will only sign a contract extension with the New York Knicks, but who knows if that is true or not.

Other teams are still making plays for him, especially the New Jersey Nets, who recently put together a 15-player megatrade.

There was even a trade that "happened," sending Melo to the Nets before it was revealed to be false.

It's a fun story to follow, especially if you're a fan of one of the teams in pursuit of the small forward.

Brett Favre

Brett Favre is a media darling.

He provides countless stories with his close escapes from injury, his retirements and subsequent unretirements and his inability to make up his mind.

But if a story comes out about Brett Favre unretiring yet again, you will click on it because you have to know what good ol' No. 4 is up to.

Tiger Woods

In my opinion, the biggest sports story of 2010 was Tiger Woods' fall from grace and failure to win a single tournament.

His story captivated the nation and everyone wanted to know all the nitty gritty details: how he wrecked his car, who he was sleeping with, whether he was in rehab, etc etc.

Now he's starting to get his game back, but people aren't sure whether or not they want to root for him.

But if more stories about his personal life come out, they will be very popular stories indeed. And if he's wearing his Sunday red and near the top of the leaderboard, golf fans will be watching.

With two undefeated teams left after the end of the 2010-2011 college football season, people are going to be talking about this one for a while.

A college football playoff system is one of those stories that never goes away. Everyone has their own opinion on whether or not one should exist and then how it should be set up if it should exist.

Even Barack Obama talked about installing a playoff system during his presidential campaign.

Federer vs. Nadal

The two greatest tennis players of our time have two completely separate fan bases.

While there is some mutual respect between fans, there is also a good deal of hatred. Both groups feel very passionately that their respective player is the greatest of all time.

If either of these players is in contention for a tournament title (which they often are), the news is significant.

But when they play each other, everyone watches or reads about it.

Miami Heat

First there was The Decision, now there's the actual season.

LeBron James choice to bring his talents to South Beach was controversial enough, but now the Heat are winning games left and right and really frustrating people.

They've sold out 99.9 percent of opposing stadiums during the season because NBA fans want to see Dwyane Wade and James play basketball. I guess some want to see Chris Bosh too, but that's beside the point.

You either love the Heat or you hate the Heat. There's really no in between.

You will however read about them and look at their box scores no matter what. And even if you don't want to, SportsCenter will make you.

Concussions

James Harrison, the man pictured to the left, sure wishes that this story would go away.

But the NFL and football in general has really focused and cracked down on helmet-to-helmet hits because of the concussions that follow.

Football is a physical sport, so these type of collisions are inevitable. Can players really change how they play just to try and play by the new rules?

Whenever there's a big hit that's even remotely questionable, everyone wants to voice their opinion on the play. If it was illegal, we're quick to call the player dirty, even if that's an unfair assessment.

I'm just as guilty of this as you are, which makes this another one of those stories that we just can't get enough of.

Michael Vick

The story of redemption is captivating. Just look at, or listen to, Ted Williams and the golden voice right now.

Michael Vick went from a talented quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons to one of the most hated people in America just a few years ago.

Then he was released from prison and took the NFL by storm once more. He was in MVP discussions all year thanks to improved decision making, quick feet and a tight spiral.

Even though he's been eliminated from the playoffs now, we'll still be hearing his name all the time because no one knows for sure if he'll be an Eagle again.

Regardless, Michael Vick makes news on a regular basis.

Coaching Changes

When a team fires a head coach, it's a chance to turn the program or team around. Fans are given hope and expectations are automatically raised.

Speculation abounds as to who the next coach will be until the second that a new one is officially announced. And even then, rumors run rampant about how successful the new coach will be.

Look at Rich Rodriguez's firing and then the hiring of Brady Hoke. I bet that everyone reading this article has clicked on at least one article about one of those two men in the last week.

The same applies with the NFL firings: Tom Cable, John Fox and the others.

Changes in regimes are must-read stories.

Steroids

This one hasn't been in the news too much recently, but even when a women's basketball star like Diana Taurasi is said to have used performance enhancers, it makes the front page.

Steroids affect everything in baseball right now. If a player's use of them is revealed, his reputation is demolished.

Hall of Fame voting is changed because of steroids. Why else do you think Rafael Palmeiro didn't make it this year?

This may be a dormant period for the steroid story, but it will be back with a vengeance. And then it will immediately catapult itself into the forefront of the nation's minds once more.
