Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos to Coach TUF's Season Thirteen
The wait is over, and for those who predicted Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir... well, you're half right.
Mir gets Roy Nelson at UFC 130, and the consensus is that Nelson isn't exactly anyone's first choice to win.
Then again, was Rashad Evans anyone's first choice to coach the all-heavyweight season?
Well... okay, bad example, but you get the point—Nelson and Mir aren't coaching.
MMA Junkie has finally confirmed that instead of Mir, Lesnar himself will coach a crew of tough welterweights against a team headed by current UFC heavyweight contender and Black House heavyweight phenom Junior "Cigano" Dos Santos.
This season's all-welterweight cast—the first all-welterweight cast since the "Team Hughes vs. Team Serra" season six—will duke it out in the Octagon, and we all know how this one's going to end.
One guy is walking out of The Ultimate Fighter's Season 13 finale as the fifth-ever welterweight winner of an Ultimate Fighter season, while the runner-up and possibly a few others may be lucky to pick up contracts with a few impressive post-show outings.
As for the coaches, it's traditional that the two coaches eventually fight each other in the cage at a particular point in time—and except for situations in seasons two (Matt Hughes-Rich Franklin), four (no real coaches) and eleven (Ortiz-Liddell III), that tradition has been kept alive.
While an interim belt will not be at stake, the bout will carry on the tradition of coaches fighting at the end of the season—likely at UFC 131 in Toronto— and as was the case with Cigano's last fight against Nelson, the winner will get the immediate first crack at Cain Velasquez's title.
This season could provide quite the fireworks—both in the welterweight and the heavyweight divisions, and I for one cannot wait until it finally goes down.
