TNA No Surrender Preview: Canada Crosses The Line

Ron JohnsonSep 12, 2008

This Sunday, TNA takes center stage for its annual pay per view No Surrender. Live from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, we got a barrage of huge matches that should leave everyone on the edge of their seats. And if that isn’t enough for you, there is the confrontation between two legends of the ring.

Here’s the lineup for this Sunday’s TNA No Surrender.

FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE
ODB vs. Awesome Kong w/ Raisha Saeed

TOP NEWS

Colts Jaguars Football
With Jayson Tatum sidelined, Celtics' fourth-quarter comeback falls short in Game 7 loss to 76ers

Ever since arriving in TNA, Awesome Kong has bullied her way to the top of the Knockouts Division. She was practically unstoppable in her quest to be TNA Knockouts Champion. No one could stop her…until now. ODB stepped up in the absence of Gail Kim to take on the Blackanese Monster. Now that Raisha Saeed has set the tone for this bout with her constant lust for steel chairs, ODB issued a challenge to Kong. Now at No Surrender, the Knockouts will duke it out in a No Rules, Falls Count Anywhere Match.

No matter the outcome, neither woman will ever be the same.

SPECIAL CHALLENGE MATCH
The Rock N' Rave Infection vs. The Prince Justice Brotherhood

The only reason this match is taking place is because the Infection started to spread towards The Brotherhood. After a backstage encounter that led to physicality between the two teams, TNA Management’s Jim Cornette decided that it was time for this rivalry to come to a close…with a little twist. Thanks to her constant interfering, Christy Hemme will be competing in this match. Five men and one woman in one ring at the same time? I’m not a rocket scientist, but wrestling does not come to mind when I think of that scenario.

LADDER OF LOVE MATCH
"Black Machismo" Jay Lethal vs. "The Guru" Sonjay Dutt

At Slammiversary, Jay Lethal’s world came crashing down when Sonjay Dutt not only destroyed his nuptials to SoCal Val, but he also confessed his love to her. Ever since that incident, Dutt and Lethal have been battling it out to show their affection for the valet. Now the woman in the middle has had enough of being in the middle of this war and wants to end it once and for all.

To solve this dilemma, Val has set up a Ladder of Love Match for this Sunday. The object of the match is to scale up the ladder and retrieve the wedding ring. But if the Ball and Chains Match from Hard Justice is any proof of what’s to come, this will not just be a walk in the park for either man. But the reward will make the war well worth it. Scale the ladder. Get the ring. Win the heart of the hottie. That sounds simple enough, right?

The Monstrous Blueprints vs. Team 3D

Since returning to TNA from his asylum, The Monster has been on a different kind of rampage. From saving Taylor Wilde from Awesome Kong at Victory Road to waging war with Team 3D, Abyss has unleashed fury…without even slamming a steel chair on anyone’s skull. Now he has an ally in his war against these “tough guys.”

After Team 3D tried to force the rehabilitated beast to unleash his Hardcore side, “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan took it upon himself to come to the aid of Abyss. Since then, the team now known as The Monstrous Blueprints have been involved in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with TNA’s Bronx Bombers. At No Surrender, these four men will fight it out, and if I were a betting man, I would expect some “toys” to be brought out to mark the occasion.

TNA KNOCKOUTS CHAMPIONSHIP
Taylor Wilde vs. Angelina Love

She shocked Awesome Kong not once but twice. She fought off every challenger that has come to knock her off the throne. But this challenge could be one of the biggest of her reign as champion.

After defeating Velvet Sky a month ago, Taylor Wilde has been assaulted and insulted constantly by Sky’s partner in crime Angelina Love. Now TNA Management has decided to let the two Knockouts battle for the gold at No Surrender. While Love has been flaunting her sex appeal and focusing on her looks, Wilde has kept her game straight. But while The Beautiful People and their “fashionista” Kip have been working on ways to look pretty if she wins the Knockouts Championship, it seems that Wilde has found an ally in the form of The War Machine Rhino.

What role will Sky, Kip and Rhino play in a match that will definitely shift the control of The Knockouts Division? And what role will Knockouts Enforcer Traci Brooks play in the Knockouts Championship?

UFC vs. TNA
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Frank Trigg

This is not a typo, people. This Sunday at No Surrender, Dana White’s prized possession will meet Jeff Jarrett’s prized possession in Ontario. After months of speculation, the UFC outcast finally steps into the six-sided ring for a legitimate match. The catch? It’s a TNA match with UFC rules. If you’ve never seen The Ultimate Fighter or a UFC pay per view, the rules are simple.

In this match, AJ Styles and Frank Trigg will battle in three 5-Minute Rounds. The winner is the one who makes the other tapout within the period, or whoever dishes out the most punishment. There isn’t much that can be said about this match. But if the UFC veterans don’t have anything better to do this Sunday, go to Ontario and watch Trigg battle Styles.

X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
"Maple Leaf Muscle" Petey Williams vs. Consequences Creed vs. Sheik Abdul Bashir

They say that it’s better to be lucky than good. In Petey Williams’ case, neither applies to him. Thanks to Rhaka Khan, Williams has managed to hold on to his precious X Division Championship. But now he has two men who want the championship just as much as he wants to keep it.

Consequences Creed has come close twice to becoming the X Division Champion, but thanks to Sheik Abdul Bashir, Creed’s chances of hoisting the title. Now Bashir has gotten a free pass to their one on one match at No Surrender. Now it’s a Triple Threat Match between Canada’s cockiest, India’s most arrogant and America’s only hope to bring respect back to the TNA X Division Championship. By the end of the night, we will either have a new champion or Petey will escape once again with the championship.

TNA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Beer Money, Inc. vs. The Latin American Xchange
Last month at Hard Justice, Beer Money used a beer bottle to get their greedy hands on the TNA Tag Team Championship. Since that screw job, the former tag champs have made it clear that they’re not going away. Despite his injury, Homicide has returned with a vengeance. But in his absence, Hernandez has done his best to keep the boys at bay.

Now the 8105 Boys are looking to reclaim their “stolen” championships from the mutual respect team of Robert Roode and “Cowboy” James Storm. But as history has shown us, anything is possible when the gold is on the line. Either way, it’ll be good for me say live and in person to Beer Money: “Sorry about your damn luck.”

FOUR WAYS TO GLORY MATCH FOR THE TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
Samoa Joe vs. Booker T vs. Kurt Angle vs. Christian Cage
Four men who have tasted gold in their illustrious career will lock up in the six-sided ring. They all will be vying for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship currently held by Samoa Joe. Since becoming champion, Joe has been the target of practically all three men’s abuse. But the difference between then and now: Joe is ready.

After proving himself to Booker T, Kurt Angle & Kevin Nash time and time again, Samoa Joe now looks forward to his first pay per view trip to Canada. As he has proven in the past, Joe is the odds on favorite when the lights are on bright and he’s backed into a corner. There is no more dangerous corner to be in when you’re the World Champion than having to face three men who want to get back to those glory days.

Kurt Angle hasn’t tasted gold since losing at Lockdown to Joe. Christian Cage hasn’t tasted gold since the King of the Mountain match last year. And Booker T wasn’t able to succeed in his quest to officially hold the championship at Hard Justice. Now four rivals will lock up with only one of them hoisting the TNA World Heavyweight Championship heading into Bound IV Glory. Samoa Joe knows he has a bulls-eye on his chest heading into the pay per view, but he has a plan. And his plan involves…

The Icon confronts The King of The Mountain and The King of Journalistic Sting comes to Canada

A few months ago, Sting was contemplating retirement. Since then, he has been on a mission to beat respect into the young studs of TNA. From Joe to Styles, Sting feels that none of the young guys respect those who have paved the way for them to be there in the first place. He also feels that no one is going to stop him from accomplishing his goal.

That is…until now.

It started at Hard Justice when a guitar mysteriously appeared in the Samoa Joe-Booker T World Championship Match. A few days later, the guitar appeared again on IMPACT! during the Kurt Angle-AJ Styles match. Then it showed up again the following week. In the process, the familiar music continues to drive Sting up the wall.

But all the questions came to an end (almost) this past Thursday as the King of the Mountain returned and answered the challenge of The Icon. Sting is determined to make Styles and Joe show respect this Sunday at No Surrender. But Sting now has someone new to watch out for. It’s funny how a few years ago, Sting called Jeff Jarrett “The Cancer of TNA.” You think Jarrett is considering Sting the new cancer of TNA? What will happen when The Icon and The King of the Mountain meet in the same ring for the first time since Jarrett’s final appearance last year? Will Sting find an ally in Jarrett in his fight to bring respect back? Or will Sting be the next one on the receiving end of The Stroke?

As an added bonus to the show known as TNA No Surrender, I am personally packing my bags and going North of the Border to get drunk with those crazy Canadian fans. Live from Oshawa, Ontario, it’s TNA No Surrender with special guests The Bleacher Report. See you Sunday night. And I hope that WWE is watching and paying attention.
