The amazing upsets at the Medibank International Sydney continued Tuesday afternoon as second-seeded Vera Zvonareva and fourth-seeded Samantha Stosur joined top seed Caroline Wozniacki on the sidelines of the event.

World-ranked No. 24 Flavia Pennetta upset Zvonareva 7-5, 7-5 while No. 25 Svetlana Kuznetsovadefeated Stosur 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Zvonareva mostly beat herself, committing a staggering 11 double faults, winning only 17 of 42 second-serve points. Pennetta broke her opponent six times in 10 chances. It was Pennetta's fourth win in six tries against Zvonareva.

Kuznetsova, a former Top 5 player, used a lethal second serve to rally past local favorite Stosur, winning 16 of 30 second serve points. Stosur saved six of six break points in the first set, then only one the rest of the way in tumbling out of the tournament.

In the first quarterfinal of the tournament, qualifier Bojana Jovanoski continued her impressive start to the season by knocking off Arvanne Rezai, 7-6(4), 7-6(4). The 77th-ranked Jovanoski has now defeated two players ranked significantly higher than her—the 19th-ranked Rezai and 22nd-ranked Kaia Kanepi

Seventh seed Victoria Azarenka also advanced with a 7-5, 6-3 win.
