How Can the Chicago Bears Prove They Are the Real Deal?

Justin BakerSep 12, 2008

With low expectations, the city of Chicago was overwhelmed by the victory last Sunday night versus the Colts. However, even after a dominating win, the fans of Chicago still do not have faith in a team that says, "We knew we were this good all along."

What will it take for the city of Chicago and the NFL nation to consider the Bears a real threat in their division, let alone the NFL? If the Chicago Bears defeat the Panthers this coming Sunday, will that prove that they are a new and improved team? That may not even be enough.

What Lovie Smith and the Chicago Bears have to do is prove to the NFL and the Chicago fans that they can consistently win. Last year, the Bears did not have a single two-game winning streak which to say the least is not consistent. All four phases will have to play a role every game, every down.

Chicago has been known for some time to have had an anemic passing game. In order to prove the naysayers wrong, a number of things are critical in this process.

First, the Bears must stay healthy. In previous years, that has been their problem. With an offense that was unable to move the ball downfield, the one thing the Bears prided themselves on—the defense—was troubled with injury's last year.

If the Bears are able to put long drives together, run the ball well, and continue to dominate on defense for a minimum of four games, then they then may have the NFL's attention, as well as the Chicago fans' faith that they are a team to be reckoned with.

Until they can prove this last win over the Colts was not a fluke, they will continue to be looked at as a 7-9 team at best. As for this reporter, I have all the faith in the world, but then again, any real Bears fan or any fan of a team for that matter will love and believe in there team no matter what.

With a win this Sunday, the Bears will take one more step in the direction of success!

Will Kyle Orton lead his team to victory? Will Lovie Smith and the coaching staff put together another fantastic gameplan? Will Matt Forte step up and have another 100-yard rushing game? Will Briggs and the "Monsters of the Midway" be able to stop the Panthers?

We shall see...We shall see...Find out this Sunday.

In the mean time...Go Bears!
