Les Miles Breaking News: He Meets Michigan, but Mum's the Word for the Moment
Louisiana Sports Rap has been monitoring the situation all day regarding Les Miles and Michigan. We have been collecting background and information from all sources. Here is the current situation as we have it.
A meeting took place earlier this evening in Baton Rouge between Les Miles and representatives of the University of Michigan regarding the vacant head coaching position at Michigan. The offical release by LSU SIO Michael Bonnette was a brief statement from Director of Athletics Joe Alleva, the third in as many days: "We continue to work with coach Les Miles and we remain committed to keeping him as the head coach of the LSU football program well into the future."
Much of the day’s information comes from the vigilance of WBRZ and their persistence in obtaining information. The meeting itself was supposed to have taken place at the Voodoo BBQ, a popular place located in the condo complex where Miles reportedly has a unit. Following the meeting, it was reported that an individual thought to be be Brandon boarded a Domino’s supplied aircraft and returned to Ann Arbor.
In the meantime, in conjunction with the meeting’s release, Bonnette emphasized that no decision has been made and that Les Miles remains the coach at LSU and will attend the American Football Coaches Association convention in Dallas on Tuesday as planned. George Bass of AAI Sports is Miles’ sports agent with offices based in Dallas as well.
The aircraft carrying Brandon to Laurel Oaks, Michigan was met by the Detroit News, where AD Dave Brandon indicated that the meeting was "good, but the deal is not done." So much for guessing who was on board the aircraft that left Baton Rouge.
ESPN’s Joe Schad is reporting that a source close to Miles indicates he would be inclined to accept a Michigan offer. Late results indicate that LSU officials were still talking with Miles in an effort to retain the services of the head coach according to Associate AD Herb Vincent.
We are positive that a resolution will come quickly and Louisiana Sports Rap will report it as soon as a concrete decision becomes available. Michigan’s necessity should prompt a quick resolution to the questions. The schools involved are all aware of their options and an answer may come as early as tomorrow. Check back to stay informed.
