Kevin Kolb, Philadelphia Eagles: If Michael Vick Returns, Trade Kolb?

Sal DeRoseJan 10, 2011

It seems Philadelphia quarterback Kevin Kolb wants to take his talents elsewhere.

In an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer, Kolb said, "I love it here, as everybody knows. My family’s settled in here. I would love to be starting here. But I want to be starting somewhere."

Kolb has been the understudy to Michael Vick after suffering a concussion in Week 1 versus Green Bay. Kolb was able to start in three games after Vick had suffered a rib injury in Week 4 versus Washington and started in Week 17 while Philadelphia rested their starters who were bitten by the injury bug.

Vick has had an MVP-like season leading Philadelphia to a NFC East title and a berth into the playoffs. Kolb, however, has to endure yet another season watching his team make a playoff run from the bench.

Since being drafted out of Houston in 2007, Kolb has been the perennial backup in Philadelphia. He was groomed to be the replacement for McNabb when he left the City of Brotherly Love.

Now, Vick has taken his rightful claim to the throne.

Before this season, Kolb received a one-year extension after the 2009 season and an $11 million bonus. Now, he might be looking for a trade elsewhere as Vick has seemingly wrapped up the starting job and will most likely be franchised come the offseason.

Kolb was 2-2 as the Eagles starter (2-3 if you count his two quarters of play in the Packers game) and threw seven touchdowns with seven interceptions and, 1,197 yards.

Kevin Kolb could be a solid starter somewhere else in the league. Possible destinations for Kolb could be the Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings and, according to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, the Cleveland Browns if they hire offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.

When Kolb was asked if he could take another season as a backup to Vick he said "I can't answer that question."

Well, it looks like Kolb's time in Philadelphia could be ticking as Vick doesn't look to be going anywhere.
