Patriots vs. Jets: CB Darius Butler Will Need to Step Up
One of the most underlooked positions in football is the nickel back.
The nickel back comes in the "nickel" package when it is likely a pass situation, and they usually line up on the opposing team's slot receiver. The slot receiver is usually very fast and hard to cover, so the nickel back needs to be ready to cover.
The New England Patriots' nickel back has been Darius Butler lately.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Butler had a tough time earlier in the season, lining up as the team's No. 2 cornerback, but was benched after performing poorly.
Now, Butler has found a new role as the team's nickel back.
The Patriots will be hosting their rivals, the New York Jets, next Sunday, and Butler needs to come to play.
The Jets have been known to line up multiple players at slot, even their tight end.
Butler should expect to cover receivers Brad Smith, Jerricho Coctchery, Santonio Holmes and the tight end Dustin Keller.
All potential slot receivers can cause a lot of trouble for New England if Butler fails.
Butler has recorded 23 tackles on the year with six pass deflections, and he will be facing some talented receivers against New York.
At some points, Butler will be matched up against Holmes, who is New York's fastest and most talented receiver.
Butler is one of the key players to watch, and his success in the game will be a major part in the final score.
Whenever the Jets bring three or more wide receivers onto the field, expect Butler to come out in the nickel package and the Patriots to likely line up in a 2-4-5 formation.
