Denver Nuggets Owe It To Their Fans To Deal Carmelo Anthony ASAP
It’s become obviously clear that the Denver Nuggets need to trade Carmelo Anthony immediately. The team is in shambles, George Karl is doing his absolute best to hold them together and I think with most other coaches this team would have already come completely off its hinges and completely crash and burned.
Anthony is playing his butt off night in and night out. He’s playing for that next big contract that comes from a team that doesn’t have the Nuggets insignia on the checks.
He’s ready for Manhattan; he’s ready for a potential Newark-to-Brooklyn move.
He no longer wants to be in Denver.
This Nuggets team was extremely close to taking over the Western Conference. They were much further along than the other young teams like Portland, OKC, Utah and the lot.
We knew the Lakers and the Spurs would eventually falter and the Nuggets could have easily had a trip or two to the Finals in the very near future if they managed to keep the team together and add that one elusive piece that every team so desires.
The Nuggets were a solid shooting guard away from being elite and now the best small forward in the Western Conference wants to pack his bags and head east. His teammates are not very happy about it and it is really starting to show.
Losing by 20 at home to the atrocious Kings are is a sure sign of things in disarray. There is an obvious tension and disconnect among the players.
From all indications that I’ve heard the team was fairly tight and enjoyed playing with each other.
When the team was on, winning games and pushing into the playoffs, this was extremely obvious.
Anthony has been fairly cordial about the impending break up. He’s not come right out and said that he wants out. It’s been his camp that has been doing all the talking for him.
I do like that approach by him. There have been some other notable superstars in the past who have spent every media moment they have had demanding a trade, crying for a trade, taking out full billboards in their cities telling the fans to suck it and they want out.
Okay, maybe the last one is fictitious, but you could imagine it eventually happening, right?
The Nuggets themselves are in a bit of flux, any one of them could be part of the deal to New York or New Jersey; some like Chauncey Billups would rather be bought out than play for the Nets. I bet a lot of the Nuggets feel the same way.
Also there is a lot of battling between players for who is going to become the new Alpha Male once Anthony departs.
Is it Billups or JR Smith, Nene or maybe Ty Lawson?
It could also be one of the players who is brought in or a pick that would come in via the draft next summer. Possibly even a new free agent.
I can’t say anything about the pieces the Nuggets will receive in the trade, I do know they want a lot of draft picks back for him and a player who can contribute right away and not let them take a large step backward.
The team needs to make a deal and let the players gel down the stretch to see if they can still have a shot at the playoffs.
There is a lot of talent still on the team, but we don’t know who’s going to be on the team tomorrow, next week or next month.
The way things are going, the whole team could be blown up. We do know that there isn’t a safe player on the roster, and that is the exact reason this trade needs to be made and made soon.
The fans in Denver deserve better than this, and the Nuggets organization owe it to the fans to make this deal now and start moving forward.
