Klitschkos Put David Haye in Rear-View: Fight in Poland with Adamek on Tap

Johnny WalkerJan 8, 2011

The prospect of a fight between either Klitschko brother and the UK's David Haye now seems to be almost completely dead.

Haye mouthpiece Adam Booth recently proclaimed that the "Klitschko situation is dead," and that his charge intends to defend his WBA crown against mandatory challenger Ruslan Chagaev -- who it must be said looked far more impressive in beating Nicolay Valuev than did Haye -- at the end of May in England, providing Chagaev, who has the Hepatitis B virus, can prove he's healthy.

Haye reportedly told K-2 promotions that he under no circumstances is interested in fighting the older, meaner, iron-chinned Klitschko brother, Vitali, which is fine, because the elder Klitschko is set to defend his WBC heavyweight title belt against his mandatory challenger, Odlanier Solis -- who defeated David Haye as an amateur.

According to ESPN.com's Dan Rafael, the Solis fight "is happening on March 19. The deal is agreed to. Period."

Meanwhile, the younger Klitschko, Wladimir, who holds The Ring magazine heavyweight belt along with the IBF, IBO and WBO titles, has his rescheduled date with the UK's Dereck Chisora on April 30 to attend to, after which, presuming all goes well, he has an agreement in place to defend his titles against top challenger Tomasz Adamek in Poland.

In a press release, Adamek says, "Today everything points to an agreement being signed for a fight with Wladimir Klitschko. The fight will be at the new Stadium in Wrocław. Our location has many practical aspects. Our fight will promote the new stadium, and the city, before the planned EURO 2012 soccer matches."

Rafael explains that, "The Klitschko and Adamek people have a deal in principle (not signed) for Adamek to fight either Wlad or Vitali in the fall.  But it's a long way from being reality given that all three will have least one interim fight -- Wlad fights Chisora, Vitali fights Solis and Adamek will fight in April."

Indeed, Adamek thought he was going to fight former WBC champion Samuel Peter in Katowice, Poland, on April 16, but that deal appears to be on the rocks.

Negotiations have been underway between the Adamek camp and former heavyweight champ Hasim Rahman; Cris Arreola, who has his own date on ESPN's Friday Night Fights coming up on January 28, has also been mentioned as a possible dance partner for Adamek.

"Who I will fight in Katowice, nobody knows," says Adamek.
