The Touch and Feel of Cotton Should Be Part of the BCS Fabric

After watching the 75th Cotton Bowl Classic play out in Jerry's World only one thought came to mind:

It's time for the BCS to add a fifth game to its lineup.

Why not?

The Cotton Bowl is one of the classic bowl games and now with Cowboys Stadium as its venue there is no denying it is more than ready for the big time.

The old excuse against the Cotton Bowl was weather. This venue eliminates that factor and with a capacity for 83,000-plus and all of the state of the art tricks you could want what could possibly be standing in the way of this traditional bowl game?

The BCS of course.

Another four year contract for the BCS begins this year, which means that the earliest we could see the Cotton Bowl participate in college football's most coveted lineup would be 2014.

Things of this nature never move swiftly and the earliest push for this game would probably be in 2012 to help with the next TV contract.

You have to think it will be an uphill battle as the powers that be with the BCS seem reluctant to change.

Adding this bowl to the BCS would mean you'd potentially have your entire top ten playing in one of the five biggest bowl games each year, and to be honest it is a shame that a game like the Cotton Bowl, sturdy sponsor and all, with its tradition is left out in the cold.

While we all should be arguing for a playoff that will probably never happen the least we can do is hope that the BCS pie gets a bit bigger.
