LFC Transfer Rumours : Reds On the Move for Out-of-Favour Spurs Defender Corluka

Shree Ganesh RajendranJan 7, 2011

It has been reported in the last 24 hours that Liverpool's Director of Football Strategy, Damien Comolli has been monitoring the situation of Tottenham's out-of-favour Croatian defender Vedran Corluka.

The 24-year-old defender has rarely featured this term with the much improved Alan Hutton taking over the responsibility of being permanent right back. He has seen himself settle for a place in the bench and has only featured in a mere four games for the high-flying Tottenham side.

If Liverpool are as reports suggest bring Vedran Corluka to Anfield, it would be a good move in many ways. He has plenty of Premier League experience having arrived in England as early as 2007 to play for Manchester City and then later on moved to White Hart Lane after a strong season at Manchester.

He has been a regular when playing for both the clubs until this season. Interestingly, it was Comolli who orchestrated the move for him when he arrived with a fee of £8.5 million to the Lane.

Corluka is also a versatile defender as he can play in full back and in a central position giving the Reds plenty to think about. He's also decent in defending and good going forward.

Roy Hodgson's underachieving side needs desperate cover at right back with the defensive form of Glen Johnson a constant worry for the Reds. Johnson has been reported to be on his way out of Anfield ever since Roy made a public outburst a couple of months ago saying that Johnson doesn't deserve to be England's first choice at right back.

Liverpool will have to face stiff competition from Serie A giants Juventus to land the 6'4" Croatian defender's signature.

However, givemefootball.com did not report anything about the price Corluka may fetch for the Reds.

Among other players being linked with a move to Liverpool a day before they face table-toppers Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup are Eljero Elia, Per Mertesacker and Robert Huth.

It will be an interesting January for the Reds as not only are NESV looking for new players, some young managers have also been approached to take over the hot-seat from Roy Hodgson as Roy seems to be on the way out of Anfield after a string of poor results.
