NFL Free Agency: Where Could The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ronde Barber Land In 2011?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Ronde Barber in the third round of the NFL Draft all the way back in 1997.
14 years and five Pro Bowls later, Barber is set to become a free agent. It's rare for one player to play that long for one particular team, but that's exactly what the 35 year old has done.
Evey year he's been expected to drop off in production, but every year he continues to play at an effective level.
Head coach Rahim Morris wants Barber back. I'm sure after 14 years Barber wants to come back.
Can the two sides make it work?
Here are the top destinations Ronde Barber could land in 2011:
10. Arizona Cardinals
1 of 10
Quick Take: Despite having so many big names, the Cardinals secondary still struggled mightily in 2010.
Greg Toler started for most of the season and was very ineffective. Mike Adams played better, but it's still too soon to consider him the starting corner of the future.
Barber would be an upgrade until the Cardinals could find a true starting talent opposite of Dominique Rogers-Cromartie.
Chance: 1%
9. San Francisco 49ers
2 of 10
Quick Take: One of the reasons the heavily favored 49ers failed to win the AFC West was their horrible secondary.
Shawntae Spencer should be replaced and Nate Clements isn't close to being worth what they're paying him.
The 49ers could go after Barber for a quick fix, but are much more likely to look for someone young in the draft.
Chance: 1%
8. Denver Broncos
3 of 10
Quick Take: The Broncos pass defense was one of the worst in the league in 2010 with Champ Bailey at corner. Bailey is set to become a free agent and is expected to leave.
On top of that, Perrish Cox could be headed to prison.
The Broncos need to address the cornerback through free agency or the draft or they'll be lit up very badly next year.
Chance: 3%
7. Seattle Seahawks
4 of 10
Quick Take: Marcus Trufaunt's future with the Seahawks is up in the air.
Besides Trufaunt, Seattle doesn't have any big name corners.
If they need a quick fix, Barber could be called upon, but again, the draft is the most likely place the position would be attacked.
Chance: 3%
6. Philadelphia Eagles
5 of 10
Quick Take: The Eagles are probably regretting their decision to trade Sheldon Brown.
Dimitri Patterson is horrible, and Joselio Hanson isn't much better.
The Eagles are good enough to be a contender right now. That level of team is the most likely option to pry Barber from Tampa Bay.
Chance: 5%
5. Detroit Lions
6 of 10
Quick Take: The Lions need help in the secondary bad.
They aren't afraid to sign veterans to their up and coming team. Kyle Vandenbosch was picked up last off season and performed well.
Ronde Barber fits perfectly in Jim Schwartz's cover two scheme.
Chance: 7%
4. New England Patriots
7 of 10
Quick Take: Bill Belichick and the Patriots have always welcomed veterans to their football team.
Kyle Arrington should not be starting at cornerback in the NFL. Devin McCourty is amazing, but that's all they have at the position.
Leigh Bodden will return in 2011, but he can't be relied on to produce at the same level he did previous to his injury.
Chance: 8%
3. Baltimore Ravens
8 of 10
Quick Take: All of the Ravens cornerbacks will be free agents this off season besides Lardarius Webb and Dominique Foxworth who is coming off a torn ACL.
The Ravens didn't have much at cornerback to begin with either.
Barber could be added to a veteran defense that is ready to win now.
Chance: 10%
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
9 of 10
Quick Take: The Pittsburgh Steelers pass defense is the only thing holding their defense back from being unstoppable.
The savvy veteran Barber would be more than welcome on the Steelers experienced squad.
Bryant McFadden has had trouble all season long and shouldn't be relied on as a starting cornerback any longer. Cornerback may just be the team's number one need this off season.
Chance: 12%
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
10 of 10
Quick Take:
Again, Barber played in Tampa Bay his entire career, a whopping 14 seasons. It's very likely that if he doesn't retire, he stays with the Buccaneers.
He was a major part of their Super Bowl squad in 2002, and he should be part of their climb back to the top in 2011.
Chance: 50%
