Boo Hoo Cryami

M hSep 11, 2008

Remember the good ol' days of Miami football? The days where they were the ones taunting and running up the score, didn't care who they beat or how they beat 'em. That's just how "The U" rolls and you have to deal with it. Apparently those days are over. The new fan is a rather strange one. This new fan seems to have forgotten their past. Except if they are reminding you they "used" to be on top and they "have" won 5 championships. This fan is quick to justify going for a 4th down play on national powerhouse Charleston Southern when the score was 45-7. But it's blasphemy if someone scores a late FG on poor little Miami. Oh yeah, they'll play the sympathy card too. They have no shame. Now, they are reduced to moral victories instead of victories on the field and finding positives in losing instead of negatives that could be fixed after a win.

Of course any logical person would decide to shut up and wait until next time right? Not these fans. Instead of taking a defeat where Miami played a very good game and showed a lot of promise, especially on Defense. These new fans want to cry about a couple plays and a late field goal, throwing dirt over the spirited game their team just played. Lending them excuse after excuse. "We didn't get this call ... " "The refs didn't do this.." When in fact, the calls were the right ones. Oh, but don't you even think about mentioning the no call when Tebow got laid out which should of been roughing the passer, or a block in the back on the kickoff. Nope that didn't happen and if it did, in no way does it compare to their bad calls.

This doesn't stop with the fans though, oh no. The coach himself has a serious case of being a hypocrite along with a little shameless whining to go with it. Forget the fact that Shannon doesn't even know the rules of college football, this is evident in the comment about needing 2 feet in bounds to make a catch, or how about the "uncatchable ball" that hit Percy Harvin's hands. Let's focus on Shannon reducing himself to an embarrassment to Miami football and the players who played in the game. He went back and forth giving UM excuse after excuse and poor old Miami got the score ran up on them by a more experienced team. But wait, the younger and more inexperienced team out there was, that's right, Florida. The best part about it is, Randy Shannon is totally wrong about his rants.

Lets also talk about Shannon and his campaign to smear Urban Meyers image to anyone who will listen. First of all, this wouldn't be an issue if Shannon knew how to play himself into the BCS. Anyone who knows anything about College Football knows that "style points" matter when it comes down to the voting. The only bowl Shannon knows how to play for is a bowl of popcorn while he's on his couch in January watching what might have been on TV. Secondly, he's whining about a FG in a 20 point game. Which is totally different than going for it on 4th down on Charleston Southern with the score 45-7. Yep, totally different. This is what the once powerful Miami Hurricanes have been reduced to... A weak depression.

You would think the players of old, you know the ones who did the trash talking and ran up the score, they would understand what happened here? Surely those guys wouldn't forget what it was like back in their day, would they? Well guess what stellar individual came out of the woodwork to try and smear Urban Meyer's character? None other than person of the century Warren Sapp. Now Sapp has joined in on the pity parade, calling Urban Meyer a "dirtbag" for kicking the FG. Oh how soon does one forget their time in Miami. Should we even mention some of Sapp's mishaps that could easily qualify him as a dirtbag. It's a sad state of affairs when your past players have to come in and defend a team who talked trash before the game but couldn't back it up. Especially when he's talking about something Miami has been known for in the past *cough* Schnellenberger *cough*.

So a once proud and "respectful" (on the field... most of the time) team has been reduced to moral victories and past history trophy's. Their coaches, who were once some of the best in the business, reduced to a glorified Defensive Coordinator and an Offensive Coordinator who couldn't find the endzone if someone tattooed it on his rear end. Oh and the former players, they have forgotten what it's like to dominate people and run up the score because of the state of Miami. But hey, they'll be National Championship contenders..... "next year".
