San Francisco 49ers: Josh McDaniels Not Interested, So Who's Next for Niners?

Frank FittipaldiJan 6, 2011

ESPN's Mike Sando is reporting that ex-Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels is not interested in the 49ers head coaching position.

Josh McDaniels reportedly is not fond of the talent in San Francisco.

McDaniels is coming off a terrible stint in Denver so the 49ers are much better off without him.

With the spygate scandal still looming over McDaniels, the 49ers should look elsewhere for their next head coach.

The 49ers may have lost out on Stanford's Jim Harbaugh as the Miami Dolphins have stepped in and become the front runners to sign Harbaugh.

It was reported that the 49ers offered Harbaugh $5 million annually and that the Dolphins have exceeded the 49ers offer.

It seems like it has come down to money and Dolphins' owner Stephen Ross is willing to pay more than the 49ers for Harbaugh.

Now that the 49ers seem to be out of the race for Harbaugh, who will they turn to?

The available people are Tom Cable, Eric Mangini, Perry Fewell and of course, the great Bill Cowher.

Cable did a great job this season leading the Raiders to an 8-8 record so that would not be a bad choice for the Niners.

Mangini has not had success as head coach but maybe he needs another change of scenery.

Perry Fewell is reportedly the favorite to land the Panthers head coaching job so his availability seems to be slim.

Then we have the great Bill Cowher, who has a specific list of teams that he would like to coach, and the 49ers is not one of them.

If the 49ers want their man Jim Harbaugh, they are going to have to up their offer, because the Dolphins want him in Miami.
