Monday Night Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles Will Fuel Off Jessica's Comments

Dan ParzychSep 10, 2008

Week 2 of the NFL season brings us one of the best match ups of the season as the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Texas Stadium to take on the Dallas Cowboys in what should be another classic game between the two NFC East rivals.

As a passionate Eagles fan, there is nothing I love more than a sweet, sweet victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Most Eagles fans will agree with me; if there is one team I hate to lose to, it is the Dallas Cowboys (next to the Giants of course).

Is it because I'm jealous of their three Super Bowls in the 90's with a dynamic lineup of Aikman, Emmitt, and Irvin? Possibly.

Is it because of Terrell Owens signing with them after he ripped apart the Eagles franchise?

Ok, that is a major influence on why I hate losing to the Cowboys. But I will save T.O. for another article.

When the schedule for the 2008 season was released, I was excited to see the Eagles and Cowboys would play on national television the second week of the season.

Just when I thought my excitement level hit maximum capacity, Jessica came along to prove me wrong.

Yesterday afternoon, I was enjoying SportsCenter while working on my PowerPoint presentation for Natural Gas when a clip of "Good Morning America" came on.

The first thing that came to mind: "Oh joyful, another story about Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo."

Usually, I ignore everything I hear about this lovely couple. The media thrives off this couple and it makes me sick. However, this time was different.

Jessica Simpson was on Good Morning America promoting her new country album. (I always thought she was a pop singer?) One of the hosts singled out a fan wearing a Romo jersey.

Obviously this fan was showing her love for Jessica by wearing the jersey of her boyfriend.

That's when things got interesting.

After one of the hosts of the show made a comment about some Eagles fan in the audience, Jessica sent a message out to all Eagles fans.

When asked about the Eagles, Jessica simply replied with, "That's next week! We're going to kick your butts, too!"

In a matter of seconds, Jessica Simpson became the next enemy in the city of brotherly love.

I would love to see Jessica perform a concert in Philadelphia after comments like she made on Good Morning America. Remember during the NBA Finals in 2001 when Destiny's Child tried to wear Laker jerseys during one of their halftime performances?

Some can argue who has the best fan base in the NFL. I'm pretty sure the Eagles fan base will not welcome Jessica in their city anymore. As a Philadelphia fan, I'm obviously going to say the Eagles have the most intense fans in the country (although we don't sell Bernard Pollard shirts like George Lampman!) We did however boo Santa Claus and cheer Michael Irvin as he lay motionless on the field.

So how will the Eagles respond to Jessica's comments?

Well if they are like me, they are even more anxious for Monday night. The singer who asks about "chicken being in tuna" because it's called Chicken by the Sea thinks the Eagles are going down this Monday night. This just makes me want to see the Eagles win even more and I'm sure all the players are on the same page.

If anything, I sure hope history repeats itself Monday.

Minus a 38-17 loss last at home, the Eagles have been pretty solid against the Cowboys in the Tony Romo era, winning the last two at Texas Stadium.

The main question that has surrounded Tony Romo over the last two seasons is why does he always perform poorly when his girlfriends attend the game?

Two years ago, the Eagles played the Cowboys on Christmas day. The best Christmas present that year was Jeff Garcia leading the Eagles to a 23-7 victory in Dallas. Romo had one of his worst outings of the season, throwing for 142 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Romo also posted his lowest quarterback rating in his career, 22.2.

At the time, Romo was dating one of my favorite country singers, Carrie Underwood. A lot of people were giving Romo criticism, claiming that part of the reason why the Eagles won was because of Underwood being there. The young quarterback from Eastern Illinois  was enjoying life in the spotlight and many were afraid that he was enjoying his celebrity status a little too much.

The following year, Underwood was out of the picture and Jessica Simpson now held the title of "Romo's girlfriend."

If there was one thing that annoyed me about Jessica Simpson, it was the way she shook her pink Romo jersey when the cameras shined on her.

Once again, the Eagles defeated Romo and the Cowboys on their own field 10-6. Romo had one of the worst performances of his young career, throwing three interceptions and only completing 13 of 36 passes. He also had a passer rating of 45.5.

That leads me to the question that every Eagles and Cowboys fan wants to know: will Jessica be at the big showdown this Monday night?

Absolutely.

Think about the scenario. Jessica's latest album Do You Know was just released September 9. The opportunity to be seen on Monday Night Football by millions of viewers would help record sales for her new album. Jessica loves the publicity she receives for dating Romo (I'm sure everybody remembers her shaking the pink #9 jersey at last years Eagles-Cowboys game).

So what are my predictions for this upcoming Monday night?

Well, I expect the "Jessica Jinx" to come into full effect as Romo struggles once again with his girlfriend at the game. The Eagles offense looked unstoppable last week against the Rams. Expect another solid performance from a healthy Donovan McNabb as the Eagles go on to win 21-10.
