NFL Draft Prospect: New England Patriots Should Consider DL Cameron Heyward

In the 3-4 defense, it is essential that you have talented and versatile defensive ends. Cameron Heyward, a defensive linemen from Ohio State could offer that. 

The New England Patriots haven't had a great pass rush in recent years and could use some help at the defensive end position. 

The Patriots currently have Gerrard Warren, Mike Wright, Myron Prior and Ron Brace cycling in-and-out of the defensive end position. They are all quality players, but they are nothing more than role players.

With New England's current roster, they don't have too much of a promising future, besides Ron Brace. So, it'd be a smart idea for Bill Belichick to look in-depth at the defensive ends in the upcoming draft class.

New England's highest pick is at 17, which is from the Oakland Raiders.

At 17, they could definitely draft a high-valued defensive end, and one player that comes to mind is Cameron Heyward.

Heyward is a senior at Ohio State and has put up some big numbers.

The 6'5", 288-pounder offers a lot of potential. Being his size, he has a lot of agility which will be great for a pass rush lacking team like the Patriots. 

Heyward should be a middle first-round pick, and the Patriots should make a move on him. 

But, as we all know, the Patriots will select whatever player who has the highest value. And not to mention, head coach Bill Belichick could very well trade his top pick and get "value" in return such as a couple third-round picks. 

From pure speculation, I would advice Belichick to look Heyward's way. He has a promising future and is said to be an extremely hard worker. He is loved at OSU and is a team leader that has a team first mentality.
