Oakland Raiders: Tom Cable Informed That He Will Not Return in 2011

Frank FittipaldiJan 4, 2011

ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that the Oakland Raiders have informed coach Tom Cable that he will not return as head coach in 2011.

Tom Cable had a $2.5 option on his contract for 2011 that the Raiders will not pick up.

Raiders owner Al Davis had another two weeks to make a decision on Cable, but it is possible that the scheduled interview that the 49ers had with Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson could have influenced Davis' decision.

Davis is very high on Jackson who greatly improved the Raiders offense during his first season as offensive coordinator.

The Raiders have over 1,000 more yards of total offense compared to last season and have shown that they are capable of putting up points.

The Raiders offense included a 59-point outburst against the Denver Broncos in Week 7, the highest single-game scoring record in Raiders history.

Jackson is certainly a top candidate to take over for Cable and is definitely capable for the job.

Jackson contributed to the Raiders' mass improvement this season as they finished 8-8 and 6-0 within the AFC West.

The Raiders were in the playoff hunt up to Week 16, which nobody would have predicted prior to the beginning of the season.

With Cable gone, it is interesting to see where Al Davis will look next, but Hue Jackson seems to be first in line to be the next head coach of the Raiders.
