Green Bay Packers vs. Michael Vick: Will the Packers Get Their Playoff Revenge?

Chris TrapassoJan 4, 2011

The Green Bay Packers squeezed into the playoffs and although the Packers faithful is ecstatic, they aren't exactly resting easy playing the Phildelphia Eagles and Michael Vick.

They did beat the Eagles in Week One 27-20, but that was completely different Philly team.

Vick went on to have an MVP caliber season after he relieved Kevin Kolb in the second half of that game, and regained his title as most dangerous quarterback in the NFL.

He looked unstoppable until Week 16, when the Minnesota Vikings got to him early and often, injuring him enough to keep him out of the season finale.

There's no exact blueprint to stop Vick and even when you install a perfect gameplan, it's not a certainty that'll you'll even contain him.

The Packers do have a fast, and talented defense with guys like Clay Matthews and B.J. Raji who are extremely disruptive up—front and Charles Woodson and Nick Collins who lead a skillful secondary.

They'll need to utilize specific blitz packages to keep Vick from running wild and improvising outside of the pocket.

The Vikings implemented numerous inside blitzes that went along with outside and corner blitzes which kept Vick guessing and limited his scrambling abilities.

Even if they keep Vick from having a monster game they'll have to stop LeSean McCoy. McCoy has become a feared back that can run between the tackles, to the outside, and catch it out of the backfield.

Run blitzes would benefit the Pack' here, as well.

I'm terms of their offense, they'll need to establish some sort of running game to keep the Eagles honest, especially with Asante Samuel's interception track record.

It's a basic game plan, but if Green Bay can successfully blitz both against the run and the pass, and run to set up their lethal passing attack, we could be in for an upset in the first round.
